Refrigeration Operator Trainee
The overall purpose of this position, i.e., what it accomplishes at Perdue and/or why it exists is:
The purpose of a refrigeration operator trainee is to understand and properly perform the following procedures: PSM Awareness and System Overview, All Safety Programs, how and when to use personal protective equipment, and the proper use of all forms; such
as PSM, Log and check sheet.
Describe below the four to seven major responsibilities of this position which must be fulfilled with or without reasonable accommodation in order to achieve the essential purpose of this position.
Perform PSM Awareness and System Overview.
Perform all Safety Programs such as lock out/tag out, hot work, confined space entry.
Fill out PSM log and check sheets.
Perform all start-ups, shut-downs and defrost procedures in all plant refrigeration systems.
Perform all operational procedures, i.e. rounds, oil draining, oil adding, posting all logs.
Perfom all emergency shut-downs and start-ups, reset & restart failed equipment and put all systems back on-line.
Working knowledge of Departmental PC’s.
Perform tasks as assigned by management.

The minimum Formal Education preferred to be considered for this position is (indicate level and years of education and, if a degree is required, the major):
Strong reading, communication, math, writing, and analytical skills are required. High School Diploma or GED equivalent and two years of technical college preferred. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude. Must pass a pulmonary test and SCBA fit test.
Specialized or technical knowledge, credentials or licensing required for the position include:
Trainee must complete all tasks and specific items of the “Operator” job requirements before they are left alone on a shift or allowed to attend outside training classes. Must be able to perform all operator requirements prior to being promoted from operator
trainee. A trainee must complete the “operator” requirements in (18) months.
