Caterpillar Weld Fabricator-CNC Machining Operator-Second Shift ( Waco,TX ) in Waco, Texas

Internal and External Description:



Caterpillar Inc. is currently seeking Weld Fabricators and CNC Machine Operators for work on second shift at our Waco, TX manufacturing facility. This is an experienced mid-level manufacturing position on the Excavator Bucket and/or Coupler Value Stream(s). Areas for a Fabricator and CNC Operator include: part setup, tack welding, seal welding, weld robot operations, lathe turning, horizontal milling, and vertical milling. Employees in this position will be expected to safely perform at expected levels by following standard work procedures to produce a quality product. Fabricators and CNC Operators will have the opportunity to learn and work in any of the areas based on business need and development planning.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

· Weld Fabricator:

o Follow guidelines and procedures to setup and tack weld subassemblies and full product utilizing various tools and fixtures including laser projection and hydro mechanical

o Seal weld units preparing them for robotic welding

o Load/unload subassemblies and full product into weld robots, executing programs and observing weld operations for malfunctions and weld defects

o Weld subassemblies where robotics are not utilized

· CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Machine Operator – lathe, horizontal and vertical mill:

o Check, adjust, set and replace tooling including inserts, jaws, probes, etc.

o Prepare machine for processing unit including changing pallets, magnets, or other tooling

o Load/unload subassemblies and components into CNC machining systems, executing programs and observing machining operations for malfunctions and defects

o Measure and/or verify dimension conformance to specification

· All areas:

o Observe all safety aspects/training/call outs – PPE, confined space, etc.

o Transport material which could involve overhead cranes, jibs, forklifts, carts, magnets, and other devices

o Responsible for conformance verification (inspection) of completed work to specification prior to movement to next station

o Perform processes as outlined in Standard Work developing consistency between shifts and areas

o Communicate variances to set process for area

o Own performance of equipment through regular operator checks and processes

Required Qualifications:



  • · 1 year certificate from college or technical school (welding or machining); and/or 1 to 2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • · Read and understand manufacturing prints with knowledge of quality standards and tolerances

  • · Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos (Standard Work, feedback, etc.)

  • · Ability to write correspondence (feedback, communication of gaps or issues)

  • · Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees at different levels of the organization

  • · Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

  • · Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations

  • · Regularly required to stand; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms

  • · Required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

  • · Required to walk, climb, and balance

  • · Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds


Desired Qualifications:

  • · Previous manufacturing experience as weld fabricator or CNC machining operator – 2 to 4 years

  • · For Weld Fabricator – GMAW spray transfer 0.052 weld wire experience
