This A/C shift rotation* position is for a Precision Glass Molding (PGM) operator/inspector within the PGM department. PGM is a unique technology in the optics industry, which utilizes a high temperature glass compression molding process to produce precision glass lenses and components. In basic terms, the process is performed by heating a polished lens blank (called a preform) in the molding machine until it softens, and then pressing it between two precision tool inserts (dies) to form a lens. The person hired for this job will go through a training process which will start with the basics of the technology and work toward the more difficult tasks. After a period of training, the employee will be required to operate multiple glass molding machines demonstrating the ability to adequately maintain the proper machine load/un-load techniques while striving to keep the machines recycled in a timely manner. He/she will be required to load parts into holders or racks. Attention to detail is required and mold cavity identity must be maintained on all jobs as a way to insure quality and data integrity. The ability to inspect optics to a 40/20 quality specification, take dimensional measurements with micrometers, and maintain accurate records, will be required after an initial training period with qualified personnel.
- A/C rotation for the PGM team at RPO means 2 months working on A shift (7am - 4:30pm) and 1 month on C shift (9:30pm - 7am)
Once trained, he/she will be held accountable for part quality, machine operation, plasma etch, inspection and traying of lenses.
Must be conscientious as the tooling required to produce and test molded optics is fragile and costly.
