Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records

  • Operates forklifts to stack and retrieve supplies and materials

  • Responsibilities also include documenting and maintaining inventory and ensuring production area organization and cleanliness

  • Receives, unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages

  • Checks and stores merchandise or materials

  • Fills requisition and orders

  • Packs, crates, and ships products out to distribution centers, departments, or assembly lines

  • Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job

  • Reports to a manager or head of department

  • Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications

  • Performs loading and unloading of outgoing and incoming shipments

  • Retrieves finished goods from inventory and stages shipments

  • Operates tier lift truck to load and unload trucks

  • Other duties may be assigned

Education and/or Experience

  • High school education or equivalent; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos

  • Ability to write simple correspondence

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs

Technical Skills

  • Training and/or forklift experience necessary

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form

  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

Physical Demands

  • Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

  • Lifting may be required with assistance provided if needed

Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions and vibration

  • Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, heat and cold

  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high
