Responsibilities

As a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator in the Directorate of Installation Services, you will operate and maintain the Depot Sewage Treatment Plant, the Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant and the potable Water Treatment Plant. Operate and maintain sewage treatment facility equipment and processes. Provide for all phases of treatment of wastewater. Increase/decrease chemical agents. Prepare standardized reports to meet Federal/State regulations. Operate all other miscellaneous equipment required for collection and treatment of the depot's wastewater treatment plant.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is not a specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of the position.

To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen out indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the Selecting Official.

Screen Out Element: The ability to perform the work of a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator without more than normal supervision to include duties related to some of the stages of the wastewater treatment process; operation of general machinery; and assisting with various chemical treatments.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

1) Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.

2) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment

3) Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)

4) Use of Measuring Instruments

5) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (other than blueprinting reading)

6) Troubleshooting

The incumbent must possess, at minimum, one of the following certifications prior to employment:

1) Sewage/Waste Water Treatment Plant (CLASS C: Subclass 2, 3, and 4) Certification OR 2) Water Supply System (CLASS C: Subclass 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14) Certification

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Considerable walking, standing on concrete floors, etc. Light/moderate effort is required to turn valves and controls. The incumbent frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted, and heavier weights with assistance from other workers or lifting devices.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The incumbent performs Wastewater Plant and Water Treatment duties both indoors and outdoors and are, therefore, subject to prevailing weather conditions. This position is exposed to constant noise, rotating machinery, dirt, grease, chemicals, oil, and fumes in the work area; subject to cuts/abrasions from the use of tools and equipment as well as chemical burns. The incumbent may also work on catwalks and ladders, and is required to follow prescribed safety practices and to wear appropriate safety equipment, e.g., gloves, protective clothing, etc. Subject position is exposed to chemicals and compounds some of which may be hazardous.
