Operate water treatment, supply, transmission and distribution and /or wastewater collection, conveyance, treatment and disposal systems ( the systems ) in a safe, cost-effective and efficient manner and ensures compliance with state and federal regulations. Perform any combination of housekeeping and grounds maintenance activities that are required. Assist in the development of procedures that promote safe, cost-effective and efficient operation of system facilities. Prepare and review system data and reports for the Authority. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include the following. Other duties may be assigned. General/Administrative Perform all activities in accordance with all policies, principles, and procedures established by Department, Division, SJRA Management and Board of Directors. Properly document, organize, and file correspondence, reports, and records related to operational activities. Operational Participate in all aspects of system operations which include the ability to climb stairs and maneuver around various equipment. Interact with contractors and maintenance during improvements and repairs to the system. Assist in training of personnel in proper and safe operational techniques. Attend to automatic and semi-automatic machines and related equipment including pumps, engines, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers and chemical feed. Monitor control panels and adjust valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate flow. Evaluate system pressures, equipment operation and instrument readings and makes adjustments to optimize operations. Perform manual labor including filling and emptying of machine bins and cleaning equipment, facilities and grounds and painting as required. Perform maintenance including, but not limited to, routine preventive maintenance, lubrication and minor adjustments. Operates vehicles for operational purposes by driving from facility to facility to conduct process duties Practices good housekeeping in assigned area and properly disposes of waste according to safety and environmental policies. Keep buildings, processes, equipment and grounds in good condition by sweeping, mopping, painting, hosing, brushing, dipping, and raking debris, maintain proper lubricant levels and mowing & weed-eating of grounds as required. Perform microscopic analyses and other process tests to aid in process evaluations. Perform various routine and non-routine field tests (chemical, physical and biological) in order to pace chemical dosages for process and disinfection. Perform system sampling for regulatory and process purposes. Inventory and order chemicals and supplies. Perform routine lab tests. Perform routine instrument calibration for portable meters. Learn, apply, and make decisions in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local policies, laws, and regulations. Makes appropriate entries in daily log for system operations. Perform work in accordance to established safe operating practices and procedures. Perform inspections of newly constructed, upgraded, and rehabilitated system facilities as requested. Qualifications: Current Texas Driver s License TCEQ Class C Operator Certification in Surface Water, Groundwater or Wastewater; Certification is required in main operating system. Consideration of a TCEQ Class C Wastewater license may be given for the Surface Water facility Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Candidates must pass background check.
