The time is right to join HNTB! We are currently seeking a Project Engineer - Traffic Operations in our Tallahassee, FL office.
Serves as technical liaison with client for arterial traffic operations and management programs through continuous interaction with client section lead and counterparts in other client offices. Delivers engineering-related tasks including research and field reviews, program planning and development, procurement documents, technical guides and procedures, conceptual plans and cost estimates, design plans and calculations, technical special provisions, and mobility and safety before and after studies. Coordinates task delivery with other personnel, as needed, to deliver assignments within scope, budget, and time schedules from initial start-up through assignment completion. Follows established quality control processes for all deliverables to deliver a high level of client satisfaction.
Provides coordination of project execution and control, in a given discipline area, to achieve continuity of purpose within scope, budget, and time schedules from initial start-up through project closeout. Also accountable for handling specific design aspects on projects appropriate to discipline field. Coordinates efforts of assigned design team to ensure completeness and accuracy of design effort. Serves as technical liaison with client on project efforts. Responsible for gross revenue of <$1M.
Responsible for the delivery of project discipline scope elements within budget and schedule.
Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work. Guides team to overall project objectives.
Serves as technical liaison with client at staff level for work within the discipline.
Assists with project management duties.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering
6 years relevant experience
Master's degree in Engineering, Traffic Operations or Traffic Systems, preferred.
PE (Florida), or ability to get FL PE within 6 months required.
Skill in verbal and written communication
Ability to receive and synthesize multiple inputs and opinions into cohesive end products
Knowledge of traffic signal timing and coordination tools, techniques, and practices
Knowledge of traffic engineering software such as Synchro, SimTraffic and HCS
Knowledge of traffic signal control equipment and detection
Knowledge of adaptive signal control strategies
Knowledge of traffic signal performance measures
Knowledge of emerging arterial traffic control and connected vehicle technologies
Knowledge of regional intelligent transportation system devices, architectures, and systems engineering principles
Knowledge of FDOT standards and specifications
Knowledge of highway signing and pavement marking
Skill with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD and MS Visio
Ability to work with GIS tools
Ability to work in a team environment
Experience with both FDOT and local agency arterial traffic management projects
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office productivity and project management software
General Work Conditions
Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
