Senior Operations Manager in Seattle, Washington

This position will be based in one of the Continental US Regions (West, Midwest, Northeast or Southeast) and is not a specific opening.

About the Sort Center Site Leader role:

The role of Sort Center Site Leader is a critical position and delivers huge impact both on the customer experience and on and on bottom line performance within the Sort Center.

You will drive delivery of all targeted business plan metrics across productivity, quality, cost, safety and people at your site in pursuit of our customer promise. You will create and build upon operational plans, drive a mindset and culture of continuous improvement through Kaizen and Lean initiatives and sustain a culture of learning and development. At an individual level you will contribute to site, regional and global initiatives, tackling complex problems that affect customers and work to resolve them with innovative solutions. Whatever you focus on, it will be aimed at ensuring service excellence, whilst continuously improving our processes.


You will be in charge of a Sort Center site. Your responsibilities will include day to day operations management, people management, metrics, productivity targets, and process improvements. Among other tasks, you will:

  • Maintain health and safety standards and promote a positive health and safety culture on site

  • Lead and supervise a team of Operations Managers, Area Managers and 100-400 hourly associates

  • Balance workload in order to schedule efficient shifts

  • Troubleshoot and conduct analyses on complex processes, achieve productivity targets, reduce cost per unit, eliminate errors and deliver excellent service by managing accurate and timely collection of data to update operations metrics daily

  • Daily monitor key metrics and deliver according to plan with a strong sense of ownership

  • Review the work plans and determine your productivity requirements to meet the business objectives

  • Ensure that you have properly trained people, and that their needs are addressed so they can focus on their jobs

  • Contribute to projects and liaise with all teams cross the Sort Center and/or relevant external actors as required. Establish collaborative relationships with individuals from other functions

  • Proactively create a culture of on-going process improvement within the workplace using KAIZEN and LEAN methodologies.

• A completed Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or 2+ years Amazon experience

• 7+ years direct management experience, including a salaried workforce, in a manufacturing, production or distribution environment

• Experience with performance metrics and process improvement and Lean techniques

• Candidates must be flexible to work a variety of hours as business demands, including overnight, weekends and holidays

  • Master’s Degree

  • 7+ years management experience in a manufacturing, production or distribution environment

  • Experience leading large and diverse teams

  • Experience with performance metrics and process improvement

  • Flexibility to work on weekends and/or overnight shifts

  • Degree in Engineering, Operations or related field

  • Lean, Kaizen, Six Sigma, process improvement experience.
