BlackRock’s ETF and Index Investments (EII) Product Operating Platform supports the recently combined Beta Strategies and iShares businesses. In line with industry trends we anticipate a period of rapid growth for the EII business.

The Global Product Operating Platform team is responsible for enhancing and developing our operating platform, with a particular emphasis on enabling business growth on a scalable and risk-controlled end-to-end platform covering:

  • End to end index investment process, including ETF specific requirements
  • Portfolio management and trading
  • Technology and BlackRock’s Aladdin platform
  • Investment operations
  • Operational and investment risk
  • Compliance
  • Third party provision of fund administration and related services

This is an Associate level role in the Americas Product Operating Platform team located in San Francisco. The individual in this role is likely to have proven experience of working with technology and operations teams, portfolio managers or third party providers within the asset management industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Initiate and deliver operating model change initiatives for the Americas EII business
  • Capture and translate business and system processes into flows and supporting documentation which can be used by business and technology
  • Act as a project manager responsible for the planning, co-ordination and reporting of platform change initiatives
  • Define, co-ordinate, support and execute user acceptance tests working with and as a proxy for the end user community
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders and delivery partners across BlackRock and EII
  • Act as a gatekeeper to ensure change does not come at the expense of the resilience, robustness and integrity of the platform
  • Work closely with partner groups across BlackRock, in particular technology, business operations and third party service providers to deliver business process and platform change
  • Contribute to global and regional initiative reporting and ad hoc management reporting requests as required

Development Value:

  • Become an EII platform and process Subject Matter Expert (SME) and be able to navigate the Business Operations, Aladdin & Technology and BPI organizations
  • Play a key role in the enhancement and development of the EII Operating Platform
  • Support the EII strategy in the launch of new products, capabilities and initiatives


  • Knowledge of asset management investment processes which may include portfolio management, trading, settlement, transfer agency, accounting, regulatory, risk and associated technology platforms
  • Experience of working on multi-functional business process and/or business systems change initiatives
  • Knowledge of the following an advantage:

  • Index and ETF investment processes

  • BlackRock’s Aladdin and investment systems
  • Working with asset management outsource providers
  • Proven ability to articulate concepts to business users and technologists
  • Willingness to travel as required


  • Educated to degree level
  • Business and Data Analysis skills
  • Core Project Management skills


  • Self-starter able to work flexibly and under their own initiative
  • Clear, concise communicator with the skills to address conflicting requirements
  • Ability to operate across multiple constituencies, at multiple levels of the organization
  • Good judgment and ability to sense scale and criticality of topics and issues
