The Director of Engineering and Operations oversees the electrical engineering and system operations of the Cooperative.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Conducts analysis and inspection of the electric system facilities that will assure uniform construction, adequate maintenance and reliable operations. Provides long-range plans and specifications for the construction, maintenance and replacement of electrical lines, substations, transmission equipment and related facilities.
Develops specifications and supervises operation and maintenance of all load management, conservation, load control and electronic communication programs and equipment.
Researches and recommends changes in operations and equipment to better utilize the electric system, reduce costs, and provide more reliable electric service.
Develops specifications for the acquisition of land and purchase of electric materials and equipment required for reliable operation of the electric system.
Coordinates physical inventory plans, controls, and specifications necessary to meet project schedules and adhere to prudent management practices. Coordinates central purchasing and warehousing functions which will result in optimum cost of materials and equipment and provide materials and supplies when needed by personnel and crews.
Develops procedures that will provide uniform practices throughout the Cooperative in the areas of assigned responsibility.
Supervises and coordinates the field operations to construct, operate, maintain, and retire the Cooperative’s electric distribution system facilities, including the acquisition, clearing, and maintenance of rights-of-way crossing members’ and public property.
Procures rights-of-way for electric facilities to cross members’ and public property.
Develops and maintains an accurate and up-to-date mapping system for the Cooperative’s electric plant facilities and the physical and planned location of Cooperative-owned facilities and rights-of-way.
Frequently operates standard office machines to include computer, copy machine, and fax. Position will be required to stoop, bend, and/or crawl in order to inspect facilities and structures. Normal activities require extensive amounts of standing and work environment is 75% indoor in normal office conditions and 25% outdoor in any condition.

Bachelor's Degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering major required. Previous supervisory experience and additional studies in business, customer service, supervision, communications, or office procedures preferred. Minimum work experience of fifteen (15) years in Cooperative system engineering management, associated-industry engineering, Cooperative regulatory administration, electrical construction, consulting engineering, or related experience.
Previous work experience in system coordination and protection studies, power requirements studies, and related activities desirable. Documented expertise in SCADA, load control, load management, computers, and radio communications, substation, and associated equipment operation and maintenance also required. Must be licensed as a Professional Engineer.
Must be able to organize, plan, direct, and motivate assigned personnel. Must be able to develop plans, programs, budgets, procedures, and reports in assigned areas of responsibility and identify and achieve measurable performance criteria.
Must be able to interact well with internal and external customers, handling inquiries and/or composing correspondence. Must convey professional interaction at all times, thereby maintaining positive relations.
Must be able to operate standard company technology/equipment, including a working knowledge of Microsoft programs and other software applications pertinent to the Cooperative’s system (Excel, Word, and Windows operating system).
Must hold a valid driver’s license at the level necessary to operate vehicles in the performance of position responsibilities.
Maintains thorough working knowledge of Cooperative Bylaws, policies and procedures.
Must be able to attend periodic seminars, training programs, conferences, civic and professional events.
