Description:

The Immune Modulation Department at Boehringer Ingelheim is seeking a talented and highly-motivated individual for a newly created Cytometry Operator position with an exciting career opportunity. In addition to assisting with daily operation of the Research Cytometry Core and providing support to facility users in their execution of cytometry studies, this position offers the unique opportunity to learn the cutting edge CyTOF® technology and become a dedicated CyTOF® specialist for its application in driving drug discovery and development. The Cytometry Core is a state of the art facility which supports all Research Departments giving the operator access for interaction with investigators from multiple scientific disciplines.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Cytometry Operator independently: operates, maintains, and troubleshoots cytometry instrumentation; performs cell sorting experiments; assists Core Facility users with instrument use, experimental design and data analysis; develops and maintains protocols and policies for the Core.

  • The successful candidate will become the dedicated operator for the CyTOF2® mass cytometer, and drive multi-parametric mass cytometry studies for various disease areas, including Oncology and Immunology.

  • Train Core users to operate instrumentation, if appropriate; collaborate with Research investigators to propose, design and execute non-routine studies on a basis of literature review.

  • Propose new cytometry-related technologies based on literature review as well as overall understanding of drug discovery/development process.

  • Report and handle data with a high level of integrity and ethics.

  • Communicate results orally, and in writing.

  • Continue to develop scientific expertise by keeping abreast of relevant literature, and by expanding scientific/technical knowledge and skill sets.

  • Contribute to the greater good of the Research organization, including administration and scientific culture.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution with seven plus (7+) years of experience in related scientific discipline or equivalent experience in related field, or Master’s Degree from an accredited institution with three plus (3+) years of experience in related scientific discipline.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience with multiple cytometry instrument platforms (analyzers, sorters).

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience developing and executing polychromatic flow cytometry panels.

  • Proficiency with cytometry data analysis software (BD FACS Diva software, FlowJo).

  • Ability to work productively in an environment that requires a high level of communication, collaboration, and customer service.

Desired Skills, Experience and Abilities:

  • Experience with CyTOF® mass cytometry is desired.

Must be 18 years of age or older
