As an Oracle Cloud PaaS Nerve Ops Support team, your role is to Provide Support to Oracle Cloud Customers to ensure their service availability and enable good response time for their requests.

It includes resolving product or service problems by clarifying the customer's complaint, determining the cause of the problem, selecting and explaining the best solution to solve the problem, expediting correction or adjustment, following up with Product / Service development teams to ensure resolution and also proactively monitoring for possible issues.

You will also maintain, administer, monitor and report the state of large-scale Oracle Cloud Infrastructure be responsible for its high availability and best possible performance.

Working as part of a Nerve Center shift, you will be part of the global follow-the-sun 24/7/365 Oracle PaaS Cloud Operations team with the mission to maintain and enhance the global cloud environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform shift Nerve Center coverage managing PaaS Cloud Platform

  • Fulfill incident requests from internal and external customers surrounding the management of PaaS Platform within applicable SLAs

  • Ability to cope in a stressful environment and deal with incidents in a calm manner

  • Follow standard operating procedures and policies in administering the PaaS Cloud Services.

  • Support the system during change windows and raise tickets if there are any overruns

  • Coordinate with network engineering, business application, and database administration function to ensure availability, reliability, and scalability of Linux systems to meet business demands for PaaS

  • Contribute to the Oracle DevOps toolchain through python/php and bash scripts

  • Monitor and test system performance and provide performance statistics and reports

  • Recommend appropriate tools in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance of daily monitoring tasks

  • Participate in project delivery aimed at increasing capabilities around monitoring, notification, configuration and deployment of servers and applications within PaaS Cloud platform

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Background

  • Relevant Qualification in Computing i.e. Diploma and/or 2 years equivalent work experience in a high pressured team environment

  • An awareness of Application Server environment in any of the following Technology areas - Oracle Web Logic , IBM Websphere, JBoss, Apache Tomcat , Java EE.

  • At least 2 years production experience in supporting within any Unix-like operating systems(Linux/Unix/Solaris) and middleware

  • Working knowledge of web applications, http requests/responses, headers, response codes, Basic web development experience a plus.

  • Basic System Administration, Shell scripting with Perl/any Shell ,

  • Ability to communicate well at all levels, Strong organizational skills, Self-motivating, ability to work in a team environment, Ability to learn new skills quickly with little supervision

  • Additional Skills (preferable) includes Networks, Understanding of IP networks, ability to analyze and monitor network traffic, DNS

  • Prior experience in Technical Support is a plus, ITIL (training or certification) or IT Service Management is a plus.

  • Familiarity with TCP/IP protocols, firewall management, and database administration.

  • Good technical knowledge of current network hardware and standards

  • Hands-on hardware and software troubleshooting experience

  • Documentation skills in order to provide structure to the processes followed

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Background

  • Good working knowledge of working on a Linux Administration in any distribution

  • Experience in an Application server / WebLogic Administration technology

  • Prior experience in mission-critical support role

Desirable skills in:-

  • Hands-on experience with Java/Python Development

  • Hadoop, Puppet or Graphite frameworks

  • Jenkins/Hudson or other continuous integration environments

  • Linux / Solaris

  • Virtualization frameworks such as VirtualBox, OVS/OVMM

Work Conditions

  • Shift schedule will require working weekends and may require office work outside of standard business hours. The teams liaise with colleagues across 2 other time zones.

  • Candidates are required to hold UK citizenship or have been resident in the UK for at least five years, a detailed background check will be conducted in order to obtain UK security clearance which is required for this role.

  • As a 24X7X365 organization, shift work, bank holiday cover, weekend cover and on-call responsibilities may be required
