The purpose of this position is to manage operational business processes in accordance with Company objectives and to ensure safe, reliable and cost effective operation and maintenance of Storage and Peaking Ops facilities. The incumbent in this role is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local rules and regulations, company policies and procedures, as well as developing and maintaining civic and community relationships.

Functional Expertise:

  • Accountable for establishing, implementing, and maintaining a high quality Safety Culture for the area of responsibility.

  • Position requires in-depth knowledge of applicable operational, maintenance and regulatory policies and procedures required to successfully manage natural gas Storage and Peaking Facilities. The incumbent provides leadership for implementation and is accountable for ensuring that procedures, practices, and policies are in place in order to comply with current and future regulations, policies, procedures, and practices.

  • Accountable for operating the Storage and Peaking Facility(s) in a safe, reliable, and cost effective manner. Must possess and provide fundamental knowledge of gas hydraulics and the technical skills required to understand, develop, and recommend corrective measures to the processes and equipment to ensure that the facility(s) are operated as designed, within limitations of the equipment, and to meet service obligations as required.

  • Analyze, recommend, and initiate corrective measures when Abnormal Operating Conditions or system malfunctions occur.

  • Possess and utilize mechanical and electrical aptitude and a thorough knowledge of facilities’ mechanical, electrical, electronic systems and capabilities. Must have a thorough knowledge of the control systems and how they relate to the equipment and processes.

  • Resolve problems and design or modify goals, policies and procedures set for the facility(s), ensuring that the needs of the Company, its employees, general public, and the customers are achieved.

  • Recommends, establishes, and operates within budgetary constraints without compromising safety, compliance, or reliability.

  • Accountable and responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining Best Practices and Continuous Improvement programs focused on safe, compliant, reliable, and cost effective operation of the Storage and Peaking facilities.

  • Remain calm in stressful and/or emergency situations in order to make logical and accurate decisions to maintain facility integrity and employee safety.

  • Plan, organize and monitor construction, operations and maintenance activities at the Company’s Storage and Peaking facilities to ensure such activities are completed within a time frame not detrimental to the successful operation of the facilities.

  • Must communicate effectively, both written and verbal, with all levels of employees in a professional and courteous manner, with tact and diplomacy, resulting in the effective transfer of information, appropriate resolution of issues, and/or advocating improvement.

  • Develop, motivate and lead employees to ensure facilities are operated in an appropriate manner to meet Company objectives. Develop teamwork through effective coaching and use of interpersonal skills. Must have strong work ethic. Must possess excellent knowledge of Company operating policies, procedures, and practices.

  • Must be a highly motivated, analytical individual capable of anticipating problems, developing solutions, and recommending innovative ideas and procedures. Must have ability to apply knowledge on a technical and conceptual level in order to achieve facilities operational goals and objectives.

  • Provides leadership, establishes goals and objectives, measures performance, and provides coaching and feed back to employees in order to instill a strong, high quality safety culture.

  • Driving results through the Performance Management process to set expectations for safety, quality and productivity metrics by providing feedback and managing performance gaps.

  • Drives operational efficiencies, productivity enhancements and efficient utilization of resources to provide safe, reliable, and cost effective operation of Storage and Peaking Operations.

  • Ensures process and system changes are implemented as necessary to meet operational requirements and comply with regulations, company policies, and procedures.

Education, Certifications/Licenses:

Required:

  • Valid drivers license

  • High School Diploma or GED and Associates degree in a technical field;

or

  • High School Diploma or GED and equivalent education, training, and applicable experience in operations and maintenance of natural gas or similar facilities.

Preferred:

  • BS degree in a technical field, Professional Certification in a technical discipline

Related Work Experience:

Required:

  • This position requires 7-10 years of progressive facility work, or equivalent, including but not limited to prior experience in natural gas plant, gas storage, and/or process operations normally acquired through at least five years as an Engineer, Supervisor, Technician, Operator and/or Mechanic duties.

  • Must have the ability to utilize plant manuals, blueprints, schematics, and other applicable design documents in troubleshooting and optimizing the operational processes.

Preferred:

  • Prior supervisory and/or managerial experience

  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment is required along with the ability to utilize equipment manuals and schematics in troubleshooting the plants processes and related equipment.

  • Proficient skills with Microsoft applications, accounting software, database applications, computerized maintenance management systems, etc.

  • Public speaking/presentation skills

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • The incumbent works in a plant office environment.

  • Physical activities include crouching, climbing, working around loud noise and machinery, working in extreme weather conditions (i.e., cold, hot, humid, etc.).

  • Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception and field of vision necessary to operate a computer.

  • Travel requirements are occasional (5-20%)
