Operations Project Manager

The Operations Project Manager provides leadership to cross-functional teams in execution of key programs within Operations. This person utilizes experience to develop the project strategy and execution to achieve critical business improvements. Projects may include business processes, infrastructure, manufacturing plant moves, operational efficiencies, supply chain changes, etc. This leader works with both teams and functional management to ensure projects meet objectives and timelines. He/she provides guidance to teams to assist in resolving issues and conflicts. He/she represents the team to the organization and reports on progress, recommendations and issue resolution to senior leadership.


  • Responsible for achieving the project's financial targets in support of business objectives.

  • Report team progress, recommendations and decisions to senior leadership.

  • Critically evaluates inputs from team members as well as those from outside the team.

  • Ensure the cross-functional members operate as a team focused on significant goals.

  • Work with key stakeholders to understand and internalize the vision for the program. Transfer that vision to the team members to drive consistent understanding of program objectives.

  • Identify and help clear barriers, drive to decisions, and create organizational alignment required to maintain effective and timely progress.

  • Delegate and manage the activities of the team members.

  • May lead a single larger program or several smaller projects, depending on organizational need.

  • Apply appropriate management techniques and/or styles given the specific needs of the project and different skill levels of various team members.

  • Lead the development of the project charter and project plans.

  • Facilitate team meetings and track and report on progress.

  • Clarify options and solution recommendations offline to ensure effective steering committee reviews and decision making.

  • Independently plans and conducts small- to medium-size assigned projects within engineering speciality

  • requiring conventional types of plans, investigations, and/or equipment. Manages multiple, often concurrent, projects and meets deadlines.Maintains project controls and reporting for cost, scope and schedule; develops execution strategy including procurement; balances multiple demands within an assignment, e.g. executes contingency plans to recover from schedule slippage and financial overruns.

  • Resolves underlying problems. Identifies full range of customer/client needs and proposes solutions to address them; makes alterations in products or services to better meet (recognized or unrecognized) customer need, e.g. partners with an outside vendor to provide a better deliverable.

  • Identifies areas of risk with respect to compliance.

Minimum Education/Minimum Experience / Training Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Biomedical Engineering.

  • 5+ years of cross-functional Project Management experience. Proven project planning skills.

  • A post- graduate education/degree is preferred.

  • Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment is preferred.

  • Able to synthesize complex business and technical aspects of large scale programs.

  • Understanding of the FDA and ISO requirements.

  • Proven team/functional leader. Drives innovation and change. Takes initiative. Strong analytical skills.

  • Effectively clarify and facilitate resolution to issues, risks and actions.

  • Works on problems of complex scope where analysis of situations or data involves multiple competing factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.

  • Interacts well with diverse groups within engineering and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external collaborators.

  • Listens to and understands others' points of view and articulates tactfully and respectfully one's own perspective orally, in writing, and in presentations. Works well with other engineers in a collaborative, fast-paced goal-driven environment.

  • Possesses interpersonal skills to negotiate and reconcile differences.

  • Has a technical background in medical devices or similar industries (preferred).
