Serves as the law department’s primary liaison with the company’s Finance / Accounting, IT and HR departments. What about GSM for any purchases, vendor upgrades etc.?
Works with senior management and Finance to develop the legal department budget.
Ensures accuracy of financial performance by conducting monthly account reconciliations to monitor departmental expenses and identify drivers of law department expenses and trends. Works with Finance on accruals and reserves. Uses information management tools (e.g., matter management, e-billing and financial accounts payable systems) to collect and communicate financial information both within and outside the law department.
Works with Accounting and outside vendors in the processing and reconciliation of all legal bills.
Prepares reports to Legal Department leadership on metrics relating to spend, outside vendor, contractor and outside counsel utilization.
Oversees technology programs and manages those systems and processes that are dedicated to the law department (e.g., matter management or e-billing, IP management, document management). Serves as liaison with the corporate IT department regarding technical support of the law department and integration of the law department’s processes with companywide systems. Assists with implementing systems, including testing and troubleshooting, identifying user needs and requirements.
Assists with hiring non-attorney department personnel, makes recommendation with regard to workload assignments and provides input for performance reviews. Manages the onboarding of all personnel within the department.
Oversees day-to-day department operations issues including anything from floor space and equipment to workflow management.
Manages a variety of programs within the law department that are directed toward improving the department’s performance. Projects may include technology or processes designed to manage e-billing, contracts, corporate entities, third-party compliance, budgets, training, metrics and benchmarking. The individual may be asked to assist the department’s attorneys in implementing project management for legal matters.
Establish relationships with operations counterparts at other legal departments and in legal operations associations to ensure that the company takes advantage of best practices in spend management, vendor management and tool deployment.
Required Experience and Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business
5 years of relevant experience working in a large public or private corporation
End to end processes Accounting experience
Experience creating and implementing departmental process changes preferred.
- Functional and Technical Skills *
Extremely comfortable with technology; strong organization, analytical and problem solving skills; excellent Excel skills and ability to develop reports, analyze data and drive automatization of processes/ process improvement, standardization and simplification; professional and capable of working with all levels of management; self-motivated team player with the personal flexibility to drive frequent change; excellent written and communication skills, ability to work autonomously and meet deadlines.
