Job Description

Position Summary:

The Word Processing Operator is primarily responsible for manipulating legal documents. This position requires expert-level skills in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Microsoft Word. Candidates must have the ability to perform advanced tasks such as creating a Table of Contents, Formatting, Cross-References, and Tables of Authority without corrupting the document. Experience with HTML and Adobe Acrobat is also required. (Please do not apply without these skills.)


  • Responsible for timely completion of documents and/or work requests

  • Ensure proper workflow procedures are followed

  • Assure highest customer service standards

  • Provide timely and accurate document processing support utilizing client standards and formats; maintain thorough knowledge of all firm-supported software packages in order to provide maximum support

  • Create and edit documents, mail merges, charts, graphs, tables, etc.

  • Scan and clean up documents utilizing scanner equipment and software

  • Convert and clean documents from other software applications

Required Skills

  • Ability to type 75 wpm

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Knowledge of legal terminology preferred, not required

  • Transcription experience a plus

  • Good knowledge of windows applications, including e-mail and document management systems

  • Prior document processing experience in a team environment

  • Ability to produce accurate work product

  • Flexibility to work overtime

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet pressing deadlines
