Alexandria Venture Investments is the strategic investment arm of Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. We are seeking an operations professional to take a lead operational role in Alexandria Venture Investments. The incumbent will be a highly skilled individual with a strong operational and/or finance background, preferably in venture capital, private equity or banking. This individual will report to the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer and will participate in all operational aspects of Alexandria Venture Investments including but not limited to, the monitoring and tracking of existing investments, working closely with internal counsel to track and review investment documents, interfacing with accounting professionals and prepare investment wire packages, and supporting the investment professionals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build and manage the operations and processes for Alexandria Venture Investments. Including but not limited to:

  • Track portfolio investments and performance.

  • Organize and analyze portfolio data and provide information to the investment team and senior management for quarterly reports and on an as-needed basis.

  • Develop internal procedures and best practices.

  • Track Alexandria Venture Investments fund metrics and performance, including development of financial models.

  • Interact closely with the investment professionals, in-house legal counsel and accounting to provide day-to-day operational support.

  • Serve as the interface between the investment team and the accounting team, including tracking ownership in portfolio companies, coordinating wire transfers and providing the accounting team with information about the investment portfolio on an as-needed basis.

  • Provide support for executive management and assist with special studies that require data compilation; analyze and interpret information in oral and written presentations.

  • Communicate with co-workers, management, portfolio companies and others in a courteous and professional manner.

  • Must conform with and abide by all regulations, safety rules, policies, work procedures and instructions.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA, CPA or equivalent experience preferred.

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in an operational or finance role required. Prior experience with a venture capital/private equity fund or bank is preferred.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial statements.

  • Must be highly organized and able to effectively manage multiple projects concurrently.

  • Ability to effectively develop and present information and respond to questions from executives, accounting and peers.

  • Understanding of venture capital industry is preferred.

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees and third parties.

  • Effective team player – able to work effectively in a small, established team of seasoned professionals.

  • This position requires a high degree of independence and responsibility.

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Some travel required.
