People Operations Advisor – East & Midcon Operations
The People Operations Advisor provides a wide range of HR generalist activities including talent management, performance management, employee development, compensation, and consultation for the US Lower 48 onshore (L48) business. This position requires the individual to have excellent generalist skills and a strong background in working closely with leadership to meet organizational goals. The person must demonstrate the tenacity, grit, and flexibility needed to provide world-class partnership to L48 teammates. This successful candidate must be able to move at increasingly higher speeds, providing clarity in the face of ambiguity.
This person will support the Operations organizations for our East & Midcon business units, and will be expected to build strong relationships with colleagues at all levels. This person also should expect to maintain a regular presence in our field locations to engage regularly will staff and support their needs.
US Lower 48 onshore is one of the largest producers of natural gas in the United States, with a presence in seven of the leading U.S. gas basins. With a huge resource base and a deep expertise in unconventional gas, including shale, the business delivers hydrocarbon production as well as technical knowledge on unconventional gas to BP operations worldwide.

Employee Relations and Engagement – Act as point of contact for employee relations matters. Support team leaders in the delivery of investigations, disciplinary processes, and effective performance conversations. Advise line management on employment policies and procedures to enable improvement in working practices and productivity and without adverse impact on regulatory / legal compliance, company reputation or employee engagement. Support employees by providing guidance and resources to proactively address concerns or resolve issues.
Client Partnership – Build positive, productive, and enduring relationships with customers. Coach, counsel, encourage, and listen to Team Leaders as they work through people-related challenges. Focus on deeply understanding customers’ needs and collaboratively develop solutions to issues that arise. Work to become a trusted advisor for the organization.
HR Policy Administration and Services – Ensure business compliance with HR policies and programs. Adept in developing new policies and procedures. Advise HR leadership and business leadership on local legal, regulatory, and company requirements. Conduct various data analyses and compile into meaningful information and recommendations. Provide high-touch support for L48 teammates to resolve personnel matters, or remain in regular contact with employees if resolution is referred elsewhere. Proactively engage with L48 colleagues on annual benefits enrollment and annual health incentive program participation, and maintain ongoing awareness of other company initiatives for ease of participation and use. Ensure efficient execution of HR operational activities, coach team leaders and individual contributors toward appropriate self-sufficiency, and provide assurance that systems-related activities are delivered timely and accurately.
Support for Cornerstone HR Activities – Assure flawless delivery of key HR-related processes, including:
Recruiting – work with team leaders to identify hiring needs and seek requisite approvals. Help leaders prepare for and conduct interviews, and evaluate candidates. Work closely with L48 Recruiting team to implement solutions designed to help us attract world class talent in support of our mission of creating a premier organization.
Performance & Reward – lead the annual performance assessment and reward process for customers in client organizations, to include supporting each team in their individual reviews, advising on allocations of base salary increases and discretionary bonus calculations, where applicable, and supporting the roll-up of the collective plans for approval.
Talent Management – work closely with L48 Talent & Learning to implement solutions that will help L48 build and maintain a highly capable organization. Help team leaders identify top talent and support creation and implementation of workforce plans for client organizations
Project Work – Take on periodic people-related projects as assigned.
Minimum of a Bachelor degree required.
Masters Degree preferred.
PHR or SPHR preferred.

BP's US Lower 48 (L48) Onshore business operates across a vast US geography, from Texas north through the Rocky Mountains. The business manages a diverse portfolio which includes an extensive unconventional resource base of about 7.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent across 5.5 million gross acres in some of the largest and most well-known basins in the US. Headquartered in Houston (Texas), L48 employs about 1,700 people across six states, operates more than 9,600 producing wells and has 70,000 royalty owners. Our vision is to be the most respected and admired oil and gas company in the Lower 48 US states.
Our Wyoming operations are anchored on the giant Wamsutter tight gas field in the south central part of the state. In the San Juan area of Colorado and New Mexico we produce from tight gas sands and operate the largest coal-bed methane field in the US. Our Mid-Continent operations cover the prolific Anadarko, and is home to the famed East Texas basin, along with the Woodford shale gas play and Arkoma basin. We also have non-operating interests in over 10,000 wells across the US with substantial positions in both the Eagle Ford and Fayetteville shale basins.
In 2015, the L48 Onshore is being established as a separate business within BP’s Upstream to manage its onshore oil and gas assets across the US onshore. This effort is being undertaken to improve competitiveness and help L48 remain at the forefront of innovation and development of technologies for unconventional resources.

Essential experience and job requirements:
5-10 years of HR Generalist experience and the ability to make proactive HR interventions in response to business needs.
Proven track record of HR business partnering across the range of core HR disciplines.
Demonstrated success in providing HR support in the US onshore environment. Independent company experience highly preferred.
Experience with Microsoft suite of applications (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) as well as HR-related systems

Position will be based in Houston or Oklahoma City
Travel will be 25-50%
