American Red Cross Operations -Logistics Supervisor in Oakland, California

Job Description:


Assist in the management of all American Red Cross Blood Services properties and facilities. Direct the maintenance and repair of buildings, labs, offices and grounds. May supervise receipt, inventory and distribution of equipment/materials, and fleet and transportation and security functions.
May oversee the transportation/fleet activities for the Region Plan, schedule and supervise the work of lower level employees. Demonstrate excellence in customer services and public relations to promote a positive image of the American Red Cross


  • Responsible for the supervision of staff including, but not limited to, hiring, training, coaching, evaluating and disciplining to ensure a well-qualified team and to enhance operational success.

  • Direct the work of staff involved with the maintenance, repair and upkeep of buildings, grounds, labs and equipment (Biomedical and other).

  • May supervise receipt, inventory and distribution of materials.

  • Supervise work performed by outside contractors.

  • Ensure compliance with all organizational policies and practices in adherence to regulatory requirements as needed.

  • May develop multiple sources of supply consistent with the needs of the user to ensure the most favorable price or contract, and establishes a competitive bid process through three or more vendors when necessary.

  • May assist in writing, organizing and maintaining department policies and procedures.

  • Assists with managing the budgetary process.

  • Develop and maintain vendor relations.

  • Perform other related duties as necessary.

Essential Functions/Physical Requirements

The duties are representative of the essential functions of the position. Operational flexibility is required to meet sudden and unpredictable needs. May be required to lift up to 75 pounds; reach, bend, kneel, climb, push and pull; work in tight spaces and use a variety of tools and equipment.


  • Associates degree or equivalent and minimum of three years related work experience including one year of supervisory experience required.

  • Related experience includes practical and technical skill and knowledge of building maintenance and material management. Excellent communication and organizational skills required.

  • Computer proficiency and excellent communications and organizational skills required.
