Manages, plans, organizes and evaluates the daily operation, staff and quality control of multiple Laboratory disciplines and/or shifts through supervisors. Oversees all testing procedures and protocols. Seeks and implements solutions to issues relating to processing and data performance. Participates in all QA/QC activities that affect the Laboratory section and patient care.
Manages and monitors day-to-day Laboratory operations including but not limited to overseeing specimen receipt and handling, work-flow, data reporting, quality control, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Evaluates, develops and implements laboratory procedures, techniques and protocols. Investigates technical problems and takes corrective action.
Develops, manages and evaluates direct reports; and oversees the development, management and evaluation of indirect reports.
Reviews and maintains quality control and quality assurance activities. Ensures calibration and maintenance of equipment to assure proper functioning.
Prepares, recommends and implements approved operating budget. Monitors and operates within budget.
Serves as liaison for vendors of laboratory equipment and supplies. Evaluates, tests, recommends, implements and initiates purchase of approved equipment and supplies.
Performs related duties, as required.
Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or related degree, required.
Licensed by New York State Education Department (NYSED) as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist (or Cytotechnologist, as appropriate to area of assignment).
Minimum of eight (8) years pertinent clinical laboratory experience subsequent to qualifying of which four (4) years have been spent working with in a clinical laboratory having a director at the doctorial level.
Knowledge of related theory, principles, practices, applicable instrumentation, analytical methods, quality control, statistical analysis, current government regulations and leadership.
