Yale University Senior Operating Systems Programmer in New Haven, Connecticut

Position Focus: Reporting to the Manager of Windows and Endpoint Technologies, the Senior Windows Systems Engineer will work closely with fellow engineers, architects, support providers, and clients as we build a world-class, service-oriented team supporting the infrastructure needs of one of the world’s great universities. This position provides Windows system administration, for mission-critical services in a dynamic academic environment. Using experience, creativity and self motivation, manage the life cycle of Windows systems at enterprise scale. Serve as a key contributor to an enterprise team responsible for Windows systems. Prepare documentation (procedural, planning, informational), to support systems administration. Work closely with technical owners of applications to plan, deploy, and troubleshoot new or upgraded functions. Provide performance tuning, capacity planning, monitoring, disaster recovery planning, and automation guidance for systems and applications. Perform limited off-shift work and participate in rotating on-call coverage. Ensure performance, reliability and security on Windows systems in a dynamic 24-7-365 production data center environment.

Essential Duties 1. Provides overall leadership role in multiple and complex areas of computing. Provides technical leadership to assist with long range vision in the area of systems design and architecture. Plans, develops and directs the design of major, complex systems. 2. Services as a technical advisor to computing professionals and provides technical leadership. 3. Operates as a key contributor to departmental planning and long range technical development. 4. Ensures that system design strategies meet the current and future business needs. 5. Guides the development of broad, unprecedented computing systems and conducts critical developmental studies. 6. Creates, conceives, and plans the development of new data sources, criteria and systems standards. 7. Plans and directs the design of major, complex systems. 8. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree in a related field and six years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1: Expert fluency in PowerShell for automation and system administration.

Required Skill/Ability 2: Deep and current knowledge and management experience with all supported versions of Windows Server.

Required Skill/Ability 3: ​Demonstrated skill at troubleshooting and resolving complex problems on Windows systems. Proven understanding of networking technologies. Demonstrated ability to work on complex projects both independently and as the team lead.

Required Skill/Ability 4: Demonstrated analytical and creative problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to develop and document complex procedures.

Required Skill/Ability 5: Proven and well developed customer service skills. Excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Expertise in one or more of the following: Windows Security, SCCM, AD Administration, or Enterprise Monitoring Solutions; Experience with administering/upgrading a large scale Active Directory; managing endpoints and mobile devices; IaaS platforms (AWS/Azure); source control (git); SaaS AD integrations; ITIL change control; DSC; SCCM; WSUS; BigFix; IIS; AD PKI; SQL Server; Chef; Ruby; SCOM
