Summary: Sets up and operates engine lathes to machine metallic work pieces by performing the following duties. We are looking for applicants for 2nd and 3rd shift. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reads blueprint or job order for specifications such as dimensions and tolerances, tooling instructions on holding devices, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cuts, and cutting tools. Positions and secures tools in holders. Lifts work piece manually or with hoist, and positions and secures work piece in holding device, machine table, chuck, centers, or fixture. Sets specified rotation speed, feed rate, and depth of cut, and positions tool in relation to work piece. Starts machine, turns hand wheels to feed tool to work piece, and engages feed. Turns valve handle to direct flow of coolant against tool and work piece. Observes cutting action of machine to detect excessive wear or malfunction. Verifies conformance of machined work piece to specifications. Scribes reference lines on work piece to lay out interrelated surfaces, lengths, and depths of cut. Computes unspecified dimensions and machine settings. Operates forklift. Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
