We are currently looking for a skilled Operator to join our Road Department. Working under general supervision, the Operator performs both routine and skilled heavy physical work related road construction and maintenance tasks and operates a variety of vehicles, equipment, and hand and power tools. He/she will have contact with the public and must be able to perform strenuous work outdoors in all weather conditions. The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED, at least one year of experience in roadway maintenance/construction or related work, and the physical ability to perform the duties of this position. Applicants must have a Class B Commercial Driver s License (CDL) with tank vehicle and air brake endorsement (or be fully licensed within 60 days of employment) and must be insurable by the Comal County Insurance Company in order to operate county vehicles. RESPONSIBILITIES Helps accomplish tasks related to roadway maintenance, which includes sub-grade and base rehabilitation, asphalt laying, and seal coat operations Helps accomplish tasks related to right-of-way maintenance, which includes maintaining drainage and culvert systems, constructing forms and finishing concrete projects, conducting mowing operations, and clearing trees and other vegetation from within the right of way Helps accomplish tasks related to traffic control signage, which includes conducting marking and striping of roadways, using computer automated equipment to fabricate signage, and repairing/installing signage in accordance with the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Device Uses assigned crew tools, equipment, and vehicles and conducts preventive maintenance to ensure proper working order Understands and implements the Comal County Road Department Accident Prevention Plan as necessary Performs other duties as assigned
