The Director leads and oversees the Canadian Banking 1B Operational Risk Management Program across all Retail Banking and Commercial Banking business units ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Accountabilities

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

  • Leads the execution of operational strategies and plans designed to improve the Canadian Banking Operational Risk Management program:

  • Facilitate the engagement of business units and control functions in the use of the risk management tools under the Bank’s Operational Risk Management Framework.

  • Develop and communicate the Canadian Banking Risk Appetite Framework and monitoring the risk profile to proactively identify changes in the profile and emerging risks.

  • Enhance the delivery of the process based risks and controls self-assessment program (RCSA)

  • Collaborate and/or lead the enhancement of the Key Risk Indicator Program

  • Actively participate in the appropriate Canadian Banking related operational risk committees.

  • Lead the new initiative risk assessments (NIRA) and ensuring overall compliance with policy.

  • Play a consultative role with respect to the Loss Data and Near Misses Reporting program while ensuring root cause and action plans are properly identified and implemented.

  • Work with business units and operational risk managers from Canadian Banking to ensure the quarterly Business Environment Survey and securing Canadian Banking Group Head sign off.

  • Coordinate the “right size” implementation of Third Party Risk Management and End User Computing business as usual state across Canadian Banking.

  • Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statements and limits. Communicate the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout the team.

  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

  • Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.

Education / Experience

  • University degree with a minimum of 10-15 years’ experience in financial services.

  • Strong understanding of the Canadian Banking business units, products, services, operations, systems and practices.

  • In-depth understanding of the Bank’s operations and controls, including knowledge of organization and infrastructure.

  • Strong knowledge of Operational Risk, regulations, and internal policies & procedures impacting banking operations.

  • Demonstrated ability in leading professional staff both in Head Office and across a distributed network.
