Position Description

Overview:

The primary purpose of the Operations Director is to provide overall direction and management of the Production/Inventory Planning and Control, Purchasing, Machine Shop, Assembly, Manufacturing Engineering, Shipping & Receiving, and Facilities Maintenance departments and personnel. Supervise and coordinate the activities in manufacturing and support employees engaged in the production, procurement, and distribution of the company’s products and maintenance of the equipment and facility. Ensure required levels of quality, productivity, and availability of personnel, equipment, supplies, and materials to meet production schedules and maintain the facilities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Functional:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures to ensure the efficient and timely shipment of high quality products in compliance with production schedules. Participate in establishing long range manufacturing goals, and input manufacturing needs to Laboratory and Process assembly departments meet same.

  • Conduct production meetings and review schedules with department supervisors. Evaluate schedules and efficiency and production reports, and adjust schedules as may be necessary to reflect changes in priorities. Conduct monthly production review meetings with management and supervisors.

  • Establish work schedules for all manufacturing departments including the machine shop , tool room, assembly, receiving, finishing, manufacturing engineering and facilities and equipment maintenance. Evaluate overtime requirements and approve requests within established guidelines.

  • Review and approve purchasing requisitions for manufacturing and maintenance. Prepare work orders for prototypes, production, and repairs. Prepare quotations for manufacturing of new parts. Provide technical support to vendors.

  • Prepare annual manufacturing budget and monitor for compliance. Recommend and economically justify the purchase of new equipment.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Prepare required reporting forms and acquire necessary permits.

  • Working with Purchasing, coordinate and negotiate all shipping, receiving, and service provider contracts.

  • Ensure best practices for all departments under management control

  • Participate in employee performance reviews. Make requests for wage adjustments. Ensure that employees are adequately trained. Review staffing and initiate requests to add or delete staff as required.

  • Administer discipline and recommend actions for personnel as necessary.

Position Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Relevant Bachelor’s Degree. Advance degree preferred.

  • 7-10 years of experience in sales management, marketing communications, business management, and strategic marketing.

  • Business to business and industry related experience preferred.

  • Prior strategic planning development experience.
