Smithfield Operations Development Manager in Lisle, Illinois

Overview:

The Operations Development Manager provides Operations support and effective project management for key business growth, brand maintenance and productivity improvement initiatives. As the key Supply Chain resource for assigned business teams, the Operations Development Manager will ensure effective use of resources and communication of priorities across the Supply Chain functions for assigned businesses.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities and tasks are written as follows:

  • Primary operations interface with business channels on new product/offering commercialization projects for assigned product groups/plants.

  • Coordinate and support timeline development, cost build-up, CAR development (if necessary), material readiness and scale-up efforts.

  • Operations lead for cost improvement efforts for assigned manufacturing locations, ensuring target achievement through project leadership.

  • Manage and drive business simplification efforts for assigned product groups/plants, including, but not limited to: SKU rationalization, packaging standardization, and component/specification consolidation.

  • Work with Business Teams to assess product offerings and ongoing effective use of Operations resources.

  • Provide Project Management support to assigned plants and projects. Work with equipment manufacturers in conjunction with engineering as operations liaison.

  • Work in partnership with Continuous Improvement Manager on key initiatives.

  • Attend product showings as appropriate and follow-up on any operational issues.

  • Engage in Plant Ideation Sessions as appropriate.

  • Support quality improvement strategies for assigned product groups.

  • Benchmark key competitive set and food industry for new technology and productivity strategies.

  • Update Senior Leadership on emerging opportunities/risks.

  • Attend weekly Operations Staff meeting to provide project status updates.

  • Schedule and attend bi-annual product category cuttings at plants to include competitive product comparison and business involvement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Business, Engineering or related field required.

  • 5+ years related experience, required.

  • Master’s degree preferred.

  • Experience in lean manufacturing a plus.

  • Prior experience with USDA, OSHA, HACCP, and GMP.

  • Excellent Project Management skills.

  • Solid experience with MS office applications.

  • SAP experience a plus.

  • Up to 25% travel expected.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
