POSITION: BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION MAINTENANCE and HEAVY VEHICLE OPERATOR, NA-4749-10,EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Regular Full-time with full benefits. Note: This position requires to serve a one-year probationary period if not previously served. Performs work in at least two of the following trades:Plumbing: installs, modifies and repairs new and existing utility, supply and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, oil and gas distribution systems, water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler systems and showers. Works from building plans, blueprints and sketches.Carpentry: Uses skilled techniques to construct, install, repair and modify wood and wood substitute structures and items requiring close tolerance fit and structural soundness. Assembles items using a variety of joining techniques and are skilled in the operation of general and precision carpentry and wood working equipment and are able to produce finished products with precise fits, accurate dimensions and acceptable appearance.Painting: Performs special coating methods such as marbling and graining using coating materials prepared in special as well as common ways and by applying coating techniques that ensure surfaces have a smooth-textured and decorative appearance and meet thickness and level requirements.Masonry: Plans and lays out work to be done for repair, alteration or construction of exterior and interior surfaces and structures built of brick, block, glass block, terra cotta, stone and various artificial and natural stone. Cuts and shapes materials used for constructing and repairing window and door openings and corners. Ensures courses are laid evenly and that completed work blends with existing brickwork. Interprets construction and project renovation blueprints, prepares layouts and sketches, and prepares purchase requests for tools, material and equipment needed to complete work. Work be accurate and to specifications according to job requirements. Special Program PositionB. Heavy Mobile Equipment Operator/Mechanic: Operates gasoline or diesel powered vehicles with gross vehicle weights of 55,000 GVW or more. These vehicles may include cargo, van, stake trucks, dump trucks, etc. Work also includes properly loading, securing, towing and transport of heavy equipment such as 12 to 53 ft. trailers, tractors, backhoes, front end loaders, etc. to job sites. Such vehicles are equipped with such driving controls as gearshift levers, brake pedal, accelerator, manual or automatic transmission, and may be equipped with air brakes. Be able to operate same equipment in the performance of construction/repair projects once on site. Is subject to assignment of trade duties noted above when not engaged in mechanic/operator duties while on site or when such duties while on site or when such duties are not needed. Operates vehicles over roads and streets through all kinds of traffic depending upon the type of vehicle operated and the purpose for which it is operated. Maintains awareness of all legal requirements for the vehicle operated, and maintains legal driving requirements at all times. Ensures that the proper preventive maintenance, e.g. oil change, tire pressure, lights, fuel, etc. are properly maintained in accordance with vehicle requirements and ensures that any/all maintenance issues, broken accessories or equipment (headlights, taillights, tires, brakes, etc.) are repaired immediately. Determines the cause of malfunctions by troubleshooting and repairs the full range of systems on a variety of automotive and heavy mobile equipment which have mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and diesel fuel systems, etc. Observes required safety, sanitation and hazardous waste disposal rules and regulations.
