Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital (http://www.hines.va.gov/), located 12 miles west of downtown Chicago on a 147-acre campus, offers primary, extended and specialty care and serves as a tertiary care referral center for VISN 12. Specialized clinical programs include Blind Rehabilitation, Spinal Cord Injury, Neurosurgery, Radiation Therapy and Cardiovascular Surgery. The hospital also serves as the VISN 12 southern tier hub for pathology, radiology, radiation therapy, human resource management and fiscal services.
Hines VAH currently operates 483 beds and six community based outpatient clinics in Aurora, Hoffman Estates, Joliet, Kankakee, LaSalle, and Oak Lawn. Over 800,000 patient visits occurred in fiscal year 2016 providing care to over 59,000 veterans, primarily from Cook, DuPage and Will counties.
Hines VAH is affiliated with 70 colleges and universities and 40 associated health professions. The primary medical school affiliation is with the Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University of Chicago. There are over 1,300 students educated annually at Hines.

The Tractor Operator positions are located within EMS at the Edward Hines Jr. Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Hines, IL. You will:
operate field type tractors with attached towed equipment, large riding lawn mowers, light and medium duty 2x4 all-wheel drive trucks with attached/towed equipment, self-propelled street sweeping machines, front end loaders and related equipment utilized for the maintenance of grounds and removal of snow and ice; operate sedans, vans, and straight trucks with various body configurations and accessory equipment to transport passengers and cargo; perform seasonal gardening tasks such as fertilizing, preparing seed beds, transplanting, laying sod, aerating, pruning, and trimming; move furniture, beds, medical equipment, and various other items between building on the medical center grounds and off site at other locations such as CBOC's; remove trash/debris from the grounds and empties trash receptacles, as necessary; serve as a member of the Emergency Snow Removal team and must report for snow removal duty on nights, evenings, weekends and holidays, as directed by the supervisor; and perform other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 6:00AM to 2:30PM, however days and hours may vary due to weather conditions and may include Weekends and Holidays, must be flexible.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions. The screen-out element for this position is ability to do the work of a tractor operator without more than normal supervision. You must also possess a valid driver's license (copy must be provided).
JOB ELEMENTS: Those who meet the minimum level of experience and training for the screen-out element will then be evaluated in each of the following job elements:
- Ability to operate a variety of tractors and attached or towed equipment.
- Knowledge of work practices (including attaching and adjusting equipment and performing operator maintenance).
- Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, related to mobile equipment operations.
- Ability to drive safely (motor vehicles).
- Reliability and dependability as a tractor operator.

PHYSICAL EFFORT/REQUIREMENTS:The person in this position is regularly required to perform duties which involve frequent arm and leg movements, climbing, and working from ladders, walking, standing, pushing carts, and wheelbarrows, bending, stooping, stretching, reaching, kneeling, and lifting heavy objects.
WORKING CONDITIONS:The work of the position is usually performed out of doors with exposure to extremes of temperature, inclement weather, mud, snow, ice, and severe jolting from equipment operation. The person in this position is frequently exposed to dangerous/toxic chemicals, fumes, vapors, sprays, and gases and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, burns, scrapes, and falls.
