Truck Driver / Equipment Operator

Position Summary:

Operate Dyno Nobel trucks and other such plant equipment in order to deliver commercial explosives products to customers in a safe, timely and efficient manner

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to competently complete inventory records, other appropriate documentation and reports

  • Drive/operate a range of delivery vehicles over public roads in order to move or deliver explosive products to company or customer sites in a timely and safe manner

  • Operation ofrigid-frame, engine-powered machines(skid steer or equivalent).

  • Possess basic mechanical skills and the ability to troubleshoot and perform minor repairs or maintenance while in the field, deliver and off load product within DN H&S Management System procedures and practices

  • Drive/operate a range of delivery vehicles over public roads in order to move or deliver explosive products to company or customer sites in a timely and safe manner. Driving duties will also frequently extend off of public roads to include mine locations/roads, FSRs, off-road field locations and other such potentially difficult terrain.

  • Load and unload all trucks, and maintain magazines, sites and inventories

  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain safe working conditions in the shop, while driving and operating equipment and while on blast sites in order to protect personal safety and safety of others

  • Prepare and maintain all records and reports concerning the handling and transportation of explosive products, including safety, and the use and detonation of explosives, in order to ensure accurate billing, regulatory compliance and performance history

  • Knowledgeable of and consistently apply practices consistent with company policies and procedures from applicable technical modules, SOPs, work site, and safety policies and procedures.

  • Ability to work accurately with numbers and perform simple mathematical calculations.

  • Proactively handle safety issues and practice Take 5! Process. Undertake Job Step Analysis in order to assess risks when approaching new tasks.

  • Maintain safe working conditions and assure that all crew members and others on the site follow all safety and regulatory procedures and practices to ensure a safe and successful event.

  • Responsible for Inventory Management

Decision Making Authority: Make decisions at a moderate degree of complexity.

Major Challenges: Managing Customer expectations performance and deliveries while complying with all Federal, Provincial and local regulations.

Technical Competencies

Experience

  • 12-24 months of mechanical, commercial driving, explosives or related work experience

Technical:

  • Must satisfy the requirements for NRCAN Explosives Handling Permit.

  • Acquire and maintain all appropriate licenses and certifications required by Federal and Provincial entities.

  • Minimum Class 3 with Air Brakes endorsements required.

  • Satisfactory completion of and demonstrated competencies in DNCI specified training modules, including technical, regulatory and other applicable skill based training.

  • Experience with Inventory Management a plus

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English, and to communicate in writing and verbally.

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

  • Must possess basic computer skills.

  • Must be able to move items weighing up to 60lbs, repetitively, over the course of a working day.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Will require exposure to medium/long distance driving, including potentially challenging driving conditions (off-road), road hazards, hazardous and explosive materials, and machinery at work sites (mines, construction, manufacturing plants).

  • Ability to operate mobile equipment in remote locations and over uneven terrain.

  • Working conditions are primarily outdoors in all weather conditions of temperature and climate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; pull, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, bend over and talk and hear.

  • Must be able to move items weighing up to 60lbs, repetitively, over the course of a working day.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment where required (boots, hard hat, gloves, glasses)

  • Must be able to climb up a ladder or other similar piece of apparatus in order to gain access to some areas of the equipment and machinery that is being operated.
