Twin Cities & Western Railroad General Manager of Operations in Glencoe, Minnesota

Primary Objective of Position: The General Manager of Operations (GMO) is responsible for developing and executing a safe work environment that provides effective and efficient freight rail transportation services across the TCWR operating territory and connecting railroad partners. The GMO is instrumental in supporting the overall business plan and strategic direction of the company by growing a world class Transportation/Operations team that understands, supports, and lives the Twin Cities & Western Railroad (TCWR) strategy and core values. Major Responsibilities: Create and maintain a safety culture that is committed to the TCWR safety vision or an incident and injury free work environment Develop operating plans and strategies to achieve and align with TCWR business strategies and core values Work with TCW's leadership to develop employees growth (succession), awareness, and support of TCW's strategy and core values Additional Responsibilities: Creates and maintains a safe work environment by enforcing safety regulations and building commitment around the TC&W safety mission of a safe work environment free of injuries and incidents Establishes goals and objectives along with appropriate measures and metrics to ensure that the group activities align with and support the achievement of TCWR strategies Provides overall leadership, guidance and compliance pertaining to company policies, procedures and their intent Responsible for the compliance of FRA standards of train operations and record keeping Annually review and make recommendations to executive management for improvement of procedures and policies regarding the movement of freight rail Creates and administers the transportation and operations budget Direct report for the DSLE and Operations Coordinator Supervisors Actively participates in research and implementation of software solutions that improves train operations and FRA regulation compliance Supervises all activities of the train crews including Operations Testing as needed Manages and schedules the train crews, including approving vacation and time off Completes incident and injury reports as required Acts as a company representative when working with customers, vendors, public entities, and/or officials requiring transportation interface Prepares and administers the annual performance reviews for direct reports Develops, organizes, communicates, and ensures the execution and compliance with General Notices and General Orders Administers engineer certifications and random drug and alcohol testing Coordinates with Class 1 and other short line connections for the movement of trains with responsibility over the day to day movement of trains Coordinates with Marketing to ensure service requirements for customers are met Provides analysis and metrics related to train movement and fuel consumption Supports the strategic goals of the department and company Works within company policies, as outlined in the TCWR employee handbook, and all guidelines and procedures as set forth by management Expectations: This position does require 24/7 availability to respond to company emergencies Limited travel is required This position works in an office environment as well as in the field for operations testing or other duties required of the position Be a strong influencer that is consistent with the Company Strategy and Core Values and personally affect and challenge others' actions, behaviors, decisions, opinions and thinking Be a trusted member of the TCWR's leadership team that is willing and able to assist and support all staff Ability to consistently manage multiple projects at one time without undue stress or frustration Ability to create and maintain a safe, positive and trusted environment The ability to work with multiple diverse communication, personality and management styles Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor The ability to adapt
