Staging BUID Utility Ops Technician II - Utilities - Operations in Galveston, Texas
High School diploma or equivalent, 4 years of journeyman experience (in HVAC, Electrical, Electronics, or Stationary Engineering) and valid Class C Driver's license. Must be capable of demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job in a post-offer employment test as administered by UTMB Rehab Services. This job requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. floor to knuckle and 50lbs. knuckle to shoulder and requires frequent bending, standing and walking.
Perform journeyman level operation of equipment and machinery in the utilities plant. Maintain the necessary technical skills to repair, maintain, inspect, and operate Utilities production, distribution, and energy management equipment. Responsible for providing assistance in the operation of electrical, mechanical equipment or systems.
From $44,560 To $55,700 Annually
Specific Job Related Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Starts up, shuts down and adjusts power plant and/or chilling station equipment or systems in accordance with established operational and safety procedures
Monitors equipment and maintains records of equipment operational status
Completes work orders using automated maintenance program systems
Identifies and reports safety hazards.
Supervises support staff as needed
Attends staff and safety training meetings
Attends plant operation and maintenance training courses
Trains new personnel as required
May perform preventative or corrective maintenance tasks incidental to the operation of mechanical or electrical systems
Diagnoses and repairs complex system wide problems
Organizes repair projects involving multiple trades
Backs up coordinator in his/her absence
Interprets trend analysis and determine when equipment should be started and stopped
Develops and implements complex control programs on the energy management system
Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/LOCATION OF POSITION:
- Some exposure to weather and physical hazards. Exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards typical to central plants and utility distribution systems. May be required to work extended or rotating shifts. Lifting heavy objects and work in plant environment
