Primary Role:* Responsible for all activities involving the operations and maintenance of the wastewater collection, and treatment system. Supervisory responsibilities for contractors. Develops processes for daily staff work functions laboratory and work orders, oversees collection and use of operational and maintenance information, and physically performs operating duties as required daily and to cover staff when off-duty (vacation, sick, etc).
Prepares, Reviews, evaluates, revises, establishes and implements policies and procedures used in wastewater treatment, that results in Safe, Compliant, Reliable, and Profitable operations.
Leads day-to-day activities and schedules and participates in review and evaluation of staff performance related to the wastewater system.
Follows and implements Company’s Environmental, Health, and Safety Policies. Leads implementation of Health and Safety program.
Implement and foster the coaching and development of employees, including idea generation, within respective functional areas
Effective and respectful communication and interactions with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations and all customers.
Performs work on wastewater system and documents work in Computerized Maintenance Management system (CMMS). Maintains work records and preventative maintenance records and prepares various reports as assigned.
Reparis water meters in accordance with schedule and clears all work orders within 30 days.
Participates in the preparation of Capital and Operations and Maintenance Budgets. Reviews and approves expenditures.
Performs other related functions assigned or as they become apparent or as management assigns
Ability to plan, coordinate and supervise the work of employees.
General knowledge of MS Office products, MS Word and Excel, and be able to learn the use of new software with training assistance and operator level use of SCADA systems.
Ability to plan and present safety training to employees.
Employee may be required to work shift work and maintain on-call assignments. There will be some weekend, holiday and overtime work as needed.
Some computer skills; MS Word, MS Excel
Extensive knowledge of the objectives, equipment, and operations of wastewater systems.
Thorough knowledge of the layout, location and equipment characteristics of wastewater system.
Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations for areas of responsibility.
Three years in a supervisory operator role for a water distribution system.
Must possess a high school diploma or GED, plus at least three (3) years progressively responsible experience in supervision of operations, maintenance and administration of water distribution systems. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for experience.
Licenses & Certifications:*
Possess a valid state driver’s license.
Illinois Class 1 Wastewater Operator Certification required.
Employee may be required to work indoor or outdoor work during seasonal heat and cold or other adverse weather conditions. Employee may be required to work where regularly they may be exposed to fumes, dust and odors.
Must be physically able to complete necessary tasks while wearing an approved respirator as required, as some required work may have potential for exposure to harmful contaminants, environments, noise, etc.
Must be able to lift 75 pounds, unassisted
There will be some weekend, holiday and overtime work as needed, including on-call assignments
