The MedImmune R&D Contracts Operations team is accountable for managing contract-to-pay, budget management, and forecasting of external spend for R&D functions.

Reporting to the Director, Business Operations, this role is for a team leader who will be accountable for ownership and improvement of critical business processes to establish standardized work practices among team members. The incumbent will join senior leaders to set strategic direction for the team while assuming accountability for developing and manage projects to drive improvements that enact the team strategy. In addition, they will partner with the business to manage a portfolio of external collaborations through the contract-to-pay process on behalf of groups of R&D leaders and scientists.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process owner and senior member of the R&D Business Operations team.

  • Drive best practices and standardization among team members.

  • Develop and monitor process metrics.

  • Use data and process knowledge to identify and suggest areas for performance improvement.

  • Participate in developing team strategy and goals.

  • Develop portfolio of projects and manage execution by applying team resources to enable strategic objectives.

  • Lead and participate in improvement initiatives.

  • Represent team interests on cross-functional initiatives with supporting organizations such as finance, procurement and legal teams.

  • Strive to influence change in those organizations to streamline operations.

  • Develop and deliver regular communications and reports on the status of team deliverables to senior R&D leaders and other organizational stakeholders.

  • Partner with R&D functions to manage portfolio of external collaborations by drafting and executing agreements, managing payments and relationships with third parties.

  • Manage budgets and spend forecasts on behalf of the business.

  • Perform analysis of existing vendor contracts, purchase orders and payment information using various business systems.

  • May supervise 1+ team members.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

  • MBA or other related graduate-level degree is a plus

  • 6+ years previous work experience

  • Previous business operations or related experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech or related industry is preferred

Competencies and Skills:

  • Must be a self-starter and action oriented

  • Experience drafting simple contracts is preferred

  • Demonstrable knowledge of, or aptitude to learn, current policies and guidelines that affect contracts, compliance etc. in a highly-regulated environment

  • Must demonstrate a high level of proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding objectives & goals

  • Comfort with ambiguity

  • Ability to communicate with and influence others in complex organizations

  • Six sigma or other process improvement certification is a plus

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
