To accomplish this, AstraZeneca Global Engineering & Real Estate has a critical Business Operations function that is responsible to develop the framework and processes for effective management and execute efficiently that underpin the ability for top tier performance.

As theEngineering Business Operations Lead in Gaithersburg, MD, you’ll play a pivotal role in leading and managing a global group to deliver requirements for effective engineering business operations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Significant interface and interaction with GERE and Operations executive management for all matters within the remit

  • Department operational budgeting & headcount management

  • Liaison with Corporate and Regional Finance Leads– Transactional and Strategy

  • Time charging system and internal billing / Cost recovery process & results

  • Department resource planning and forecasting

  • Associated systems application leadership - finance, purchasing, supporting systems

  • Capex reporting and forecasting for GE projects – monthly, quarterly, annual

  • Capital planning annual and long range GERE process support and consolidation

  • Interface with Capital Finance and AZ Portfolio coordination

  • Project and portfolio reporting processes including performance metrics

  • Procurement processing (transactional, policy, compliance)

  • Department Information management – strategy & implementation

  • Management and administration of key Project Control Systems

  • Department communication strategy and implementation program

  • Compliance coordination

  • Financial and project control standardization & simplification

  • Coordination of Project Control Operating Model and Assurance processes

  • Other strategic department activities that may be assigned

Essential Requirements

  • Project and / or Engineering / Construction experience & knowledge

  • Finance, Business, or Engineering degree

  • Multi-discipline experience & desire

  • Finance & Project Accounting

  • Procurement and Accounts Payable processes

  • Business / Management

  • Information Management

  • 5 Years of successful management experience

  • Familiarity with key software systems (SAP, Ariba procurement, Sharepoint, etc.)

  • Familiarity with Project Controls

  • Executive level communications

  • Leadership – must manage internal staff and lead implementation with other GE Functions

  • Influence – must be able to influence GE and external departments

Desirable Requirements

  • Fundamental knowledge in finance, accounting, information management and project management.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills. Able to work in a cross-functional role within all project and management organizations.

  • Proven team leader with demonstrated skills in motivating and supervising both internal and external staff.

  • Proven team player, willing to consider and accept other views and concepts in reaching critical decisions.

  • Willingness to accept and drive change.

  • Strong initiative and leadership qualities.

  • High energy, passionate advocate of effective business processes.
