Kelly Services Waste Treatment/ Hazardous Material Operator - Fridley, MN in Fridley, Minnesota

Kelly Scientific Resources (KSR) is currently seeking a highly motivated individual for one of our top clients in Minneapolis. This position is a full-time – direct hire opportunity; 1st shift; START IMMEDIATELY .

The Waste Treatment/ Hazardous Material Operator, is responsible for maintaining and monitoring the waste treatment system, ensuring that all wastewater is discharged within compliance of all local and federal agencies’ regulations. Because of the nature of the position, they will be handling hazardous substances on a daily basis, and maintaining a safe working environment for everyone is necessary.

In addition to being responsible for all waste chemicals, the Operator will be asked, from time to time, to work with fresh production chemicals. This can take the form of making chemical additions, making new baths or performing various tank maintenance duties.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Proper labeling of hazardous waste storage containers and satellite containers

  • Evaluating new waste streams for on-site treatment or off-site disposal

  • Operating on-site treatment system for hazardous waste

  • Preparing waste for shipment to off-site disposal facilities

  • Updating Management with waste inventory information

  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • Education: HS Diploma or equivalent

  • Desirable: AS or BS Chemistry or Science related field (chemical technician)

  • Experience: Due to the variety of duties, a background in chemistry, math, or another science field is preferred

  • Essential and Critical Skills:

  • Familiarity with wet chemistry and titrations; have a working understanding of other basic chemistry skills and should be able to learn how to operate an atomic absorption spectrophotometer.

  • Must be familiar with, or know where to find, information on proper handling, storage, and disposal of the various hazardous materials

  • Current on training in the following areas: Spill containment and clean-up, emergency response, annual right-to-know, and hazardous waste handlers’ training

  • Because of the nature of the position, the hazardous waste operator should be able to lift 50 lbs. regularly, operate a forklift, work in non-climate-controlled areas, wear personal protective equipment (including a respirator), climb ladders and stand for extended periods.
