Vistronix Senior Operations Database Engineer in Denver, Colorado

ASRC Federal Vistronix is actively seeking a Senior Operations Database Engineer (DBE) to join our team and support development efforts for a government client in Denver, Colorado.

Responsibilities as the DBE include assisting with the design and implementation of both relational and non-relational databases. Resolve database issues such as:

  • Performance

  • Capacity

  • Replication

  • Distributed data

Implement strategies for acquisitions, archive recovery and the implementation of a database. Administer, maintain, develop and implement policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the databases.

Key Tasks:

  • Design and implementation of high availability database clusters intended for consolidation of disjoint database environments

  • Design and implementation of synchronous\asynchronous replicated Disaster Recovery (DR) environments

  • Providing guidance to ensure database infrastructure configured and capable of adhering to Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO)

  • Providing guidance to Development Database Administrators (DBA) regarding performance tuning for proc, mem, storage, etc.

  • Providing guidance to Development DBAs regarding implementing of current mainstream releases of all applicable information assurance policies, directives, and Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG)

  • Establishing standardized maintenance requirements and procedures;

Key Technologies:

  • Databases - MS SQL Server, Oracle, Informix, MySQL

  • Virtualizations - VMWare, Oracle VM Manager (OVM)

Education and Experience:

  • A four-year technical degree such as Computer Science, Business Information Systems, or Engineering is required;

  • 7+ years of experience as a database administrator, architect, or engineer (SQL Server or Oracle preferred) is required.

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in SQL Server 2012 (or higher) Management Studio

  • At least 2 years’ experience with Oracle Enterprise Edition 11g (or higher)

  • A working knowledge of other database platforms (Informix and MySQL preferred)

  • Execute standard database procedures with a high degree of quality

  • Communicate complex information well using MS Office suite, such as Word, Excel, and Visio; ability to write and maintain standard operating procedures (SOP), best-practice guides, STIGs, and other supporting documentation.

  • Ability to mentor and guide development DBAs on best-practices and established database policies and standards

Desired Skills:

  • Recent experience supporting live production databases

  • SQL Server 2008/2012 certifications

  • Knowledge of SQL Server 2008/2012 Analysis/Integration/Reporting Services

  • Experience with database performance monitoring, tuning, and error resolution

  • Experience supporting spatial databases (ESRI ArcSDE preferred)

  • Experience working in an ITIL environment; (ITIL v3 certification highly desired)
