JOB SUMMARY :

Retrieves paper medical records from inpatient nursing floors, and additional designated departments. Prepares, scans, and performs quality control on paper medical records. Validates scanned records are viewable in EPIC.

Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of the Geisinger Health System in its efforts to provide quality patient care and patient satisfaction.

Works under the direction of the assigned Health Information Management (HIM) Team Leader or HIM Supervisor.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

*1. Retrieves paper medical records from designated areas

*2. Prepares and Scans paper medical records.

*3. Provides Quality Control of records scanned.

*4. Validates scanned records are viewable in EPIC.

*5. Maintains discretion in confidential matters discussed and materials available.

*6. Maintains an organized work environment that supports easy location of documents.

*7. Tracks volumes and productivity via spreadsheets for statistical reporting.

*8. Performs routine maintenance of scanning equipment.

*9. Cooperates with and assists team members, end users, all GHS employees and patients in a polite and efficient manner.

COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

Demonstrates Computer skills using Tower, Kofax, and Epic systems.

Demonstrates knowledge of scanning equipment.

Demonstrates a high regard for confidentiality, good interpersonal skills, and strong organizational skills.

Demonstrates self-motivation to be able to work independently

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Computer experience preferred.

Prior scanning experience preferred.

Requires up to 3 months on-the-job training to become familiar with all designated pick up areas, computer systems, equipment, and procedures.

Computer systems required:

EPIC, Outlook, IDM Find (Tower), Kofax/Ascent Capture, and Soft Med.

Valid PA driver’s license required

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is typically performed in an office environment.

Constant standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 25 pounds are involved in job duties.

Reach 100% accuracy within training period, and maintain 99% accuracy rate ongoing
