A challenging position requiring the employee to possess computer, clerical and quick-thinking skills. Receive, screen and disperses incoming calls, place outgoing calls, responds to emergencies, alarms and traumas. Provide answering services. Make overhead announcements and coordinate with security dispatch.
Performs duties to provide accurate information and communication services, ensuring the highest level of patient care and satisfaction.
Reports directly to the Supervisor, Switchboard Operations.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
*1. Serves as the primary point of access to the health system for all inbound calls; screens callers to determine the appropriate person or department to be contacted.
*2. Places outgoing calls, as prescribed; records information for calls as appropriate; provides GHS directory assistance.
*3. Provides clerical answering services for departments throughout the system.
*4. Operates paging system to locate physicians and other hospital personnel
*5. Prepares morning wake-up list and provides a telephone awakening service for physicians, upon request.
*6. Processes all calls related to alarms and activates appropriate emergency responses.
*8. Dispatches hospital staff during Trauma Alert according to prescribed policies.
*9. Notifies all personnel of emergencies such as fires codes, bomb threats, hazmats, etc., according to policies.
*10. Provides information, as appropriate, including patient room numbers, directions to hospital areas, need for shuttle bus services, etc.
*11. Makes overhead announcements, as required, including meeting, visiting hours, security messages, etc.
*13. Maintains location log of various personnel, physicians, technicians, etc.
*14. Adapts to provide accurate information and communication services for a constantly changing environment.
*15. Responsible for maintaining the accuracy of information housed in the internal GHS on-line directory.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned in the event of an emergency or operational reasons for which the employee is qualified to perform.

COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Demonstrates computer skills, data entry, clerical and intermediate to expert typing skills.
Demonstrates ability to maintain and communicate a positive customer service attitude.
Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum 3-6 months’ experience answering phones in a medical, general office, or call center environment preferred.
Requires up to six months on the job to become familiar with all duties.
