About the Position: This job provides the opportunity to support the mission of the Corpus Christi Army Depot; which is to overhaul, repair, modify, retrofit, test and modernize helicopters, engines and components for all services and foreign military customers. The Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD) is the Army's Center of Industrial and Technical Excellence for Rotary Wing Aviation Maintenance. We also provide worldwide on-site maintenance services, aircraft crash analysis, lubricating oil analysis, and chemical, metallurgical and training support. Positions include those providing support to the maintenance of helicopters in a variety of shops or in an office setting.

Responsibilities

Perform metallizing work between the helper and journeyman level. Responsible setup and operation of oxygen-acetylene metallizing equipment for a predominate portion of the time, and plasma-arc spray equipment to build up and provide a physical bonding and coating to aircraft finished hardware component surfaces with thermal, erosion, or corrosion barriers. Perform operator maintenance and minor repair of metallizing spray equipment.Check parts before, during, and after the metal buildup phase, visually inspecting to determine an adequacy of the operations being performed. Learn to read work orders, or other work authorization to determine type and thickness of materials desired number or sequence of coatings, and dimensional tolerances. Checks are to be sprayed, assuring that work piece or item has bee sandblasted prior to application of the flame spray process (e.g. plasma and thermal). Clean items as necessary and masks prescribed areas for over-spray. Selects holding stand or fixture and mounts item therein, securing firmly. Affixes jig to spray booth onto rotating turntable and sets up controlled rate of travel equipment to accomplish prescribed dimensional motion at controlled speeds by which specified rates of deposit, dimensions, and densities are achieved.

Qualifications

There is no specific length of training or experience required. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Metallizing Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision. Use micrometer, DMWR specifications and ability to use precision measuring tools such as inside/outside vernier calipers and go/no-go gauges to measure build up on aircraft parts. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Prolonged standing and walking on cement floors. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance, and over 35 pounds with assistance from another worker or weight handling equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside in shop area, usually under considerably noisy conditions requiring the wearing of earmuffs or protectors while operating spray guns. Danger of severe burn and electrical shock. Subject to possible injury from moving machinery in spray booths. Exposed to skin reaction and irritation in the handing of materials used in the spraying process. Subject to discomfort from heat and the use of arc-proof face shield or mask. Working conditions have been considered in the evaluation of this job.
