Job Summary

Assists the surgical team by performing direct and indirect patient care duties. Works under direct supervision of charge nurse, nurse manager, assistant nurse manager, or the operating room assistant supervisor.

Essential Functions

  • Assists the surgical team by performing direct and indirect patient care duties.

  • Works under direct supervision of registered nurse or the Operating Room Assistant.

  • Makes recommendations for increasing and decreasing PAR levels, and deletion of items.

  • Ensures that supplies are handled, stored, and maintained in secure environment.

  • Performs daily and terminal cleaning for OR supply, OR, and all lounges, including male and female locker rooms and restrooms, all hallways, storage areas, and sub-sterile areas.

  • Assists with positioning of patient. Responsible for operation of patient positioning equipment.

  • Performs room turnover to include moving patients from operating room table to stretcher or bed, as well as trash and linen removal, mopping floors, and cleaning furniture.

  • Stocks supplies to include mask, caps, shoe covers, soap dispensers, and scrub brushes.

  • Fills blanket and fluid warmer and stock sub-sterile areas with specimen cups, steris supplies, suction attachments and containers.

  • Assists with orientation of operating room assistants.

Physical Requirements

Requires standing and walking for long periods of time. Must be able to uncrate boxes and supplies. Must be able to lift 50 pounds of stocking supplies and trays. Near visual acuity and eye and level coordination. Ability to attend to several stimuli at one time. Ability to prioritize work at a steady pace. Ability to maintain emotional stability under stress. Ability to learn and operate an inventory computer system. Exposure to hazardous materials.

Education, Experience and Certifications

High school diploma or equivalent. One year experience as an Operating Room Assistant I required. Successful completion of Operating Room Assistant II curriculum. BLS for healthcare provider from AHA required.
