Sinai Health System Operational Excellence Manager in Chicago, Illinois
General Summary As a member of the Operational Excellence Department, this key position will assist with the oversight and implementation of the system wide Partners In Excellence program by identifying, planning, implementing, and monitoring initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce errors through the application of Lean Six Sigma tools and continuous improvement methodologies. This position will focus on improving business processes with goals of adding revenue, reducing costs, increasing efficiency, eliminating waste, defects, and other non-value added or duplicate efforts, with a continuous focus on improved customer experience. This position will spend 90-100% of time leading cross functional projects for the enterprise.
This person will work collaboratively with the Senior Leadership team, the SHS Partners In Excellence Steering Committee, and the Vice President of Operational Excellence to ensure successful deployment of the program. This position will provide technical and business support to the overall deployment of continuous process improvement initiatives across the enterprise, which unify and align strategy and operating plans resulting in enhanced stakeholder value.
This person will lead and support all system project work including the project submission, selection and prioritization process; facilitating complex cross functional project teams; coaching, support and mentoring of green belts; and assisting with projects across all DMAIC phases including: scoping/defining projects, obtaining voice of the customer, analyzing data, implementing change, reviewing team progress, and ensuring improvements are sustained over time.
This person will serve as a Lean Six Sigma expert, trainer, and coach at all levels of the organization including executive staff, champions, directors and managers, green and yellow belts, subject matter experts and other project team members. By completing and managing a portfolio of strategic process improvement projects the Operational Excellence Partner will drive organizational change and influence a culture of sustained and continuous process improvement across the Health System.
Works collaboratively with deployment leader, SHS Steering Committee, project consultants, members of finance and other stakeholders to successfully deploy the system-wide Partners In Excellence program.
Works collaboratively with leadership to establish system priorities, and goals for each business unit / value stream based on organizational pillars. Assists with project idea submissions as applicable.
Facilitates and leads cross-functional projects using LSS methodology with on time deliverables and evidence of sustained improvements and demonstrated cost savings.
Provides oversight and coaching of green belt project teams and facilitators to ensure that project documentation is complete and project phases are completed according to schedule.
Participate in the Partners In Excellence LSS Training program by teaching, coaching and reinforcing concepts from Juran Champion and Belt Training Classes.
Develops reporting tools, scorecards, and status reports on PIE improvement projects that detail activities, progress and cost reductions/savings.
Identify and work to remove barriers that slow or prevent the successful attainment of project deliverables; Effectively escalate project risks and areas requiring Senior Leadership or Champion intervention.
Develop and maintain project tracking/ portfolio management system; utilize enterprise dashboard and metrics to track and communicate results.
Execute the Partners in Excellence Communication Plan; Prepares and develops educational material for portal, leadership meetings, board updates, newsletters etc.
Maintains and updates Partners in Excellence project portal; actively manages the online project submission process.
Bachelor's degree in business administration, healthcare administration, industrial engineering, healthcare related or equivalent. Master’s degree preferred.
Two or more years of applied process improvement experience, preferably in a leadership role, with a focus on operational improvement.
Demonstrated experience in applying Lean Six Sigma process improvement methods with evidence of results.
Demonstrated ability to effectively analyze data to identify trends, performance results, and opportunities for improvement.
Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills; strong written and verbal communication skills.
Effective project management and team building skills
Proven application of analytical and critical thinking skills.
Hospital, healthcare, and/or consulting experience a plus.
Strong computer skills with demonstrable experience in Microsoft Office products, flow charting software (e.g. Visio) and statistical software (e.g. MINITAB) required.
Certification as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or required to obtain within 18 months of hire.
