Job Summary

The Director of Operations is focused on planning, organizing, and coordinating all of the activities within the technical operations of the Carolinas Laboratory Network-Core Lab. Directs and develops Team Leaders, Group Leaders, and other Teammates in the execution of the Lab's responsibilities. Manages the Core Lab as an operational unit and is responsible to accomplish company goals and targets in accordance with all company policies, methods, and quality standards. Responsible for department results related to CHS strategic goals, including quality, customer service, teammate engagement, and financial performance.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee and coordinate the daily flow of specimens and information throughout the Core Laboratory. Achieve outstanding teamwork across the various disciplines within the Core Laboratory.

  • Improve quality and efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.

  • Practice and teach critical thinking and problem-solving skills to employees in order to create an environment of continuous quality improvement.

  • Oversee the process of communication throughout the Core Laboratory, including daily huddles and regular department meetings.

  • Utilize effective listing and persuasion to communicate, coordinate, and resolve conflicts.

  • Achieve the goals established in the annual operations plan. These include targets related to the quality of the product; speed and consistency of delivery; employee engagement; and financial performance.

  • Leads the development of a long-range strategic plan relative to services, programs, human resources, capital needs and other resource requirements.

  • Develops an annual operations plan with departmental goals, departmental dashboards, key activities, time lines, and resource requirements clearly defined and understood by all teammates and other stakeholders.

  • Develop and implement annual operating and capital budgets.

  • Ensures that the Core Lab is adequately staffed and managed at all times. Coordinates with Human Resources on a continual basis on plans to meet future volume and service requirements.

  • Recruits, interviews, and selects Group Leaders, Team Leaders, and other teammates.

  • Evaluate and counsel direct reports and teammates relative to performance, conduct, attendance, and adherence to Core Lab policies and procedures.

  • Develop a succession plan for each level of Core Lab staff and leadership.

  • Ensure that all requirements of applicable regulatory agencies (federal, state, local) are satisfied at all times.

Physical Requirements

Works in a busy environment around physicians, technologists, and other hospital employees. Works in an area which contains biohazardous (infectious) materials along with chemical, fire and mechanical hazards. Each employee has the responsibility to work in a safe manner. May be required to stoop, reach and lift 20 to 50 pounds loads.

Education, Experience and Certifications

Bachelor Degree in Medical Technology, business, manufacturing, or related field is required.

Master's degree in Health Administration, Business, Science or another related field is desirable.
