UNC Department of Public Safety Senior Director for Education, Operations and Initiatives in Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Position Summary

The Senior Director for Education, Operations and Initiatives reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor / Chief Diversity Officer (AVC/CDO) and serves as a member of the Diversity & Inclusion (D&I;) leadership team. The Senior Director will assist in the design, implementation and coordination of innovative diversity and inclusion programming and leadership throughout the university. The Senior Director will manage the operations of the University D&I; Office, and will lead the budget development process, coordinate the HR processes, assist in the production of reports, internal and external documents, presentations and briefs, and guide the educational outreach efforts of the staff. The Senior Director for Education, Operations and Initiatives will also manage all outreach and recruitment initiatives, ThinkPosium, and other special initiatives and projects as assigned by the AVC/CDO.

The Senior Director will join the AVC/CDO in the coordination and work of the D&I; Council, diversity liaisons, development of the university wide metrics, the diversity report, and other diversity related committee assignments needing the expertise of the University Office of D&I.; The Senior Director will assist in monitoring the emerging and ever iterative diversity landscape on campus, statewide and nationally to better coordinate existing and evolving committee advisory councils, task forces, centers work. The Senior Director will also serve as a delegate for the AVC/CDO at meetings, university committees, briefings as needed.

The Senior Director will facilitate continuity in quality, efficiency, collaboration and optimize performance among employees in the unit, monitor program implementation, management and delivery according to the vision, mission and priorities of the unit as articulated by the university and AVC/CDO and will assist in the design /coordination of staff development experiences. The Senior Director will also research, recommend and coordinate the integration of new technology systems in the unit. The Senior Director will collaborate with the AVC/CDO, Human Resources, the Equal Opportunity and Compliance Office and other campus partners to develop and implement strategies for improved recruitment and hiring practices, and will coordinate with Institutional Research on assessment and data management projects.

The Senior Director will design and deliver diversity, inclusion and cultural competence related educational development programs, presentations, workshops and learning modules for faculty, staff and students and will guide others on the D&I; staff in providing educational programming. The Senior Director will also consult administrators and other leaders in the design of strategies to incorporate equity, respect, and inclusion into basic department work processes (e.g. reward, promotion, employee student development), and offer and implement institution-wide changes to ensure equity, inclusion and respect for all faculty, staff, and students.

Educational Requirements

Master’s degree in higher education administration, organizational development, business administration, human resource development or a related field required.

Qualifications and Experience

A minimum of three years diversity and or equity experience and demonstrated knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion principles in a higher education setting. Experience in diversity and inclusion education program development and diverse faculty recruitment required. Candidate must have excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Candidate must also have strong interpersonal and creative problem solving skills. Organizational and budget management skills are also required. Knowledge of automated applicant flow systems such as People Admin, diversity outreach functionalities and other diversity related technology preferred. Evidence of project planning and management skills and experience preferred. Work product portfolio submission required for finalists.
