Johnson Controls Commercial Operations Manager in Boca Raton, Florida

Position Summary

This position will report directly to the VP Commercial Operations with dotted lines to the assigned Product GM and assigned Regional Sales Lead. The Channel Operations Manager is responsible for providing business analyses support to both the Product GM and Regional Sales assigned for the purpose of maximizing the benefit of resources deployed in meeting the business unit’s overall strategic plan. This position will analyze KPIs to determine root cause relationships and conclusions that are not always intuitive, obvious or have a precedent. Accordingly, he/she can have significant influence on Sales and Business processes, works closely with the Shared Service Finance teams, and Sales senior leadership. An ideal candidate will have a solid combination of interpersonal skills, business acumen, technical skills, an analytical mindset, and ability to communicate financial framework and analysis to non-financial staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Play proactive role in providing business advice and assistance on business issues.

  • Using your knowledge of the business environment, provide an independent evaluation of business forecast, and assessment of business risk or opportunities.

  • Support and monitor business opportunities by review of quoting and business proposals.

  • Drive improvement in Core Operating Income and working capital metrics. Understand key drivers of both income and working capital to help maximize benefits to JCI.

  • Actively engage and contribute to current quarter operating metrics and also in long term planning & strategy.

  • Review operational metrics and KPIs to ensure performance is measured appropriately for each respective sales region and product group.

  • Monitor initiatives in support of achievement of the Long Term Plan and Annual Operating Plan.

  • Constantly seeking to value-add to current process, information system, and business growth.

  • Support the Business Planning, budgeting/ forecasting and actual business performance process.

  • Identify and challenge cost structures providing modeling support to the business and operational teams in identifying and delivering opportunities to reduce the cost.

  • Creation of business case models, undertaking sensitivity analysis.

  • Provide commercial support and expertise to sales team members.

  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Build strong Finance-Business Partner relationships with a variety of functional leaders, becoming a trusted advisor to each.

  • Support the development of revenue, standard margin, and expense forecasts for GM and Sales Region.

  • Delivery of analytics including Mix/Margin analysis, Price-Volume-Mix analysis, and Budget v. actual operating expense analysis.

  • Liaise with Corporate Pricing and Channel Marketing teams to develop effective, high-ROI channel programs.

  • Expand use of BI analytics to deliver insight to Business partner organizations with bias toward delivering self-service capabilities.

  • Support quota-setting and commissions plan modeling, forecasting, and administration.

  • Provide competitive analysis and performance vs peer / industry benchmarks

  • Create analytical models to support business cases and ad-hoc decision-making

    Education, Technical Skills, Knowledge and Experience

    Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree with major in Accounting, Finance, or Business.

  • 4 years of related experience.

  • Experience working with non-financial management and staff in the development of business plans.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • High standard of integrity and reliability.

  • Strong ability to perform without daily oversight and direction.

  • Proficiency with full Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel

  • Ability to travel up to 40% of the time.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate financial framework and analysis to non-financial staff.

  • Basic knowledge of internal controls and US GAAP, particularly revenue recognition policies.
