We are currently looking for an experienced Director of Operations to join our studio in Austin, Texas. Come work with us building AAA mobile games using the world’s top IPs.

As the Director of Operations for EA Mobile Austin, you manage the operations and execution for a multi-team development studio to build, launch, and support AAA mobile games; an organization you'll lead in close partnership with a Studio General Manager. This is a key leadership role that involves a high level of interaction with studio staff, product leadership, and development partners. You are the chief operational manager and the project management expert for the studio. The Director of Operations focuses on strategic outcomes, managing around future challengesm and making things work (or work better).

Key Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Provide strong leadership to the studio, inspire and motivare teams through personal example, enthusiasm, and dedication

  • Collaborate with other key studio leaders to define the organization’s vision, mission, and strategy; develop and drive plans to achieve those objectives

  • Help drive a development culture of healthy accountability, maximizing potential, and pride in accomplishments

  • Build an effective partnership with the Studio General Manager, establish trust and credibility with the Mobile SVP and staff

  • Strengthen the Development Director discipline through hiring, training, coaching, and mentoring

Operations

  • Create and own the studio product roadmap, accounting for live operations, title planning, and green light activities

  • Develop KPIs to track project delivery, quality, financial performance, and risk

  • Identify and manage operational risk

  • Define and implement standardized operating procedures and communication plans

  • Coordinate with supporting organizartions such as Finance, Central Technologym Core QA, Recruiting, HR, IT and Facilities

  • Provide management oversight to remote development locations

  • Identify, assign, and track development and operational issues to completion

  • Solve complex problems and balance priorities across multiple disciplines and teams

Project/Program Management

  • Validate project plans for each of the studio's teams, including scope, schedule, dependencies, and risk

  • Drive project planning and execution through Lead Development Directors, hold teams accountable for meeting milestone commitments and quality targets

  • Identify best practices and set clear standards for development processes, including effective implementation of agile methods

  • Drive process improvement across the studio

  • Report studio status at regular intervals, escalate urgent issues in a timely manner

Financial Management & Business Development

  • Manage the studio P&L, including operating and capital budgets

  • Partner with finance manager to create forecasts and maintain long-term financial plans

  • Create and manage plans for:

  • staffing, including outsourcing, hiring, and central services

  • hardware & software replacements and upgrades

  • office space and seating

  • Supervise budget management and approve expenditures for studio projects

  • Negotiate software licenses, outsourcing deal sheets, and licensing contracts

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of development experience in the software industry

  • 10+ years in leadership roles, strong people management skills

  • 3+ years of operational leadership experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field

  • Mastery of project management (including Agile methodologies)

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Expertise using Excel to track, model, and analyze data to support business strategy

  • Expertise presenting high-impact plans and recommendations to executives

  • Sound decision-making based on both data analysis and judgement

  • Strong negotiation, change management, and conflict resolution skills

  • High degree of initiative, takes opportunities to make improvements

  • Ownership mentality: responsible, invested in outcomes

  • Integrity

Bonuses

  • Game development experience (especially full cycle on shipped titles)

  • Experience in mobile app development or managing live services

  • Previous Development Director experience at EA or in similar roles in other companies

  • Project management certifications, especially a PMP

  • Master’s degree in a related field, especially an MBA

  • Experience managing remote development
