Job Summary:

The VP of Technical Operations is responsible for the planning, implementation, and daily operations of Calero’s commercial infrastructure and partnering with Engineering on technology and operations design for the company’s software-as-a-service applications. This role works closely with all areas of the business to develop the strategic agenda, ensuring alignment across all operating groups. The VP of Technical Operations has daily responsibility for network, compute, storage, database and information security across multiple datacenters with eight (8) or more direct reports over key functional areas.

As the leader with expertise in running these functions, this role will make a transformational impact on the business by executing strategic plans and continuous process improvement, as well as to ensure that appropriate standards of implementation and operation are established and enforced to maintain a high confidence, low risk technology operating environment.

Reporting to the EVP, Research & Development (CTO), this role requires strategic leadership, exceptional technical skills, strong management discipline, and robust communication skills to work with the technical staff, senior management, and stakeholders across functions and departments.

Required Experience:

Duties and Responsibilities of the job:

  • Directly lead infrastructure design, operations, and support functions

  • Ensure high reliability for client-facing systems and services, 24 hours/day, 365 days/year

  • Analyze and troubleshoot operational issues and lead rapid, effective response

  • Provide timely, clear and unambiguous written and verbal status on operational issues

  • Assess technology solutions for scalable, high-performance, and highly available environments with focus on the needs and experience of customers, partners, and end users

  • Manage and guide the selection of key IT suppliers

  • Deploy strategies to improve capabilities and ensure optimal success for our clients

  • Continuously improve how the team supports and integrates with application engineering teams, customer support, and key stakeholders

  • Lead/organize multiple complex technical projects simultaneously without compromising the quality of work or the final product

  • Prepare business cases for projects to improve the quality and efficiency of our services

  • Implement talent development and training of current and future engineers

  • Collaborate with Executive Management to ensure goals are met, and within budget

Education:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science or related field

Experience and Training:

  • 10+ years of management experience in a technical setting such as Technical Operations, DevOps and/or Software Engineering

  • Experience with and/or understanding of Lean Management methods and tools

  • Passion for quality and continuous improvement of both individuals and the team as a whole

  • Demonstrated ability to build, grow and manage Technical Operations teams that are acutely focused on operational metrics

  • Talent development experience (hiring, resource planning, performance feedback, etc.)

Technical Knowledge:

  • Strong technical knowledge via experience working across multiple technologies, tools, development platforms, operating systems, database servers, application servers and other middleware systems

  • Experience with converged, virtual, and cloud platforms, especially VMWare vcenter/vSphere/vCloud, and AWS with additional knowledge to lead us into greater use or containerization and private cloud architecture

  • Architectural exposure to Windows, Linux, VMWare, Hyper-V, XenServer, SQL Server, IIS Server, SAN, NAS, and/or other related technologies

  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL database types and data warehousing

  • Experience with DevO(ps, Continuous Delivery, and related tools such as Stash, Bamboo, Docker, Puppet, Chef or equivalents

  • Infrastructure (Server, Storage, and Database) design, build, and management experience

  • Experience managing cloud native applications and architectures
