Summary

The Vice President of Engineering and Operational Excellence (OE) will oversee the functional areas of Engineering, Operational Excellence, large Capital Expenditures, and Procurement with approximately 25 direct reports. The focus of the role is to help implement the strategic plan by optimizing our manufacturing footprint and overseeing the elements of operational excellence and vendor management. The VP of Engineering and OE will have the national engineering, operational excellence and procurement teams reporting to it. As such this role, will be responsible for the development of those teams to provide top notch engineering, OE, large CAPEX projects and Procurement support to the company.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Oversee all the Engineering Functions for Oldcastle Precast:

  • Prioritize the CAPEX projects for the Company to ensure we maximize profitability and grow revenue by filtering ranking and prioritizing all the CAPEX projects

  • Ensure that we have sufficient internal and external engineering resources to complete our CAPEX projects on time, in specification and to budget

  • Manage a central engineering team responsible to produce design drawings, management of Intellectual Property and liaison with trade bodies and local and central government.

  • Coordinate the activities of the business engineering groups within the three regions and Enclosures

  • Review our plant footprint and help optimize our geographic locations and production portfolio

  • Lead the Operational Excellence (OE) Team:

  • Standardize our approach to OE and ensure that we have the right experience, mix and location of our OE group

  • Foster close working relationships between the OE function and the local plants

  • Identify and force rank by location the optimal OE projects to ensure biggest impact in shortest time

  • Drive ownership and accountability for OE at the factory level

  • Create visibility, accountability and good process around OE, including effective project management

  • Oversee and Manage the divisional Procurement group

  • Prioritize our efforts around procurement to balance savings with needs of the business

  • Build partnerships with key suppliers and ensure we receive the appropriate support and pricing from these vendors

  • Limit key suppliers of the most common equipment, standardize our approach to procurement and the purchasing of equipment

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing, Management, Business, Engineering or an equivalent field of study. MBA and/or PE Preferred

  • 15+ years’ prior experience successfully managing a variety of departments including engineering, OE, CAPEX, Procurement, Project Management, Quality, Safety, Logistics/Supply Chain and Maintenance

  • 10+ years’ prior experience in capital expenditure management, capital approval processes, and installations

  • Ability to think strategically with strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • Proven presentation skills and ability to interact successfully with multiple levels of the organization

  • Completion of lean manufacturing training and certification programs is a plus

  • Proficient in project management systems and software

  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Excel and Word
