Talen Energy Manager – NERC Operations & Planning Standards in Allentown, United States

Job Description

This position leads the Talen Energy Supply, LLC NERC Operations & Planning Standards compliance program. The manager develops and implements compliance strategies and documentation criteria, and coordinates compliance activities across the fleet. This position is part of the central Talen Energy NERC Group and directly manages Talen Energy and contract personnel.

The Manager – NERC Operations & Planning Standards works both independently with minimal guidance using expert knowledge of compliance requirements, and collaboratively within the NERC Group and across organization boundaries. This is a senior-skill level position with formal supervisory responsibility. The manager provides subject matter expert leadership.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead NERC Operations & Planning Standards compliance strategy development and implementation for Talen Energy Supply, LLC generating plants

  • Develop and maintain procedures which implement company compliance strategies

  • Provide leadership to evaluate, analyze, and prepare positions for complex technical issues and for draft Operations & Planning Standards

  • Communicate technical and complex topics orally and in writing in order to define issues and identify solutions

  • Represent company-affiliated Registered Entities with regulatory authorities during compliance activities, regulatory workshops, and official correspondence

  • Advise on market compliance issues that interface with NERC Reliability Standards

  • Lead fleet-wide coordination meetings, recording meeting minutes, assigning action items, and performing follow-up as needed

  • Serve as the Regional NERC Contact for generation plants as needed

  • Develop and/or review routine regulatory submittals, review monthly compliance checklists, and identify and report potential compliance concerns

  • Perform calculations and testing required by NERC Operations and Planning Standards for Talen Generation units, and create specifications for contractors and supervise their work

  • Provide guidance and functional advice, and serve as a resource to less-experienced staff members and subject matter experts

  • Conduct briefings and training on Operations & Planning Standards requirements and company compliance strategies, processes, procedures and tools

  • Establish and maintain respectful and effective working relationships across organizational boundaries

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline

  • 10 years power generation experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Electrical Engineering degree

  • Plant Engineer experience at a generating facility

  • Project Management experience with technical generating plant projects

  • Demonstrated ability to understand, audit, or apply NERC requirements to business unit processes

  • Supervisory experience

  • Professional Engineer license

  • Able to plan work to meet performance expectations and group/departmental goals

  • Capable of handling stressful situations; prioritize and organize work effectively

  • Proven record of customer-oriented focus

  • Effective interpersonal skills

  • Effective written and oral communication skills

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and databases
