Research Operations Director, Translational Research for Affordability & Quality (TRAQ)

HealthCore, Inc., a health services research firm headquartered in Wilmington, DE is seeking a Research Operations Director for Translational Research for Affordability & Quality (TRAQ) to join our dynamic company in our Alexandria, VA office . Founded in 1996, and now an independently-operating subsidiary of Anthem, Inc., HealthCore provides the health care system, biopharmaceutical industry, academia, as well as federal and state governments with "real-world" data to improve the quality, safety, and affordability of healthcare. HealthCore’s projects range from retrospective to large-scale, prospective studies in the areas of drug, vaccine, and medical device safety surveillance, risk management, pharmacoepidemiology, health outcomes, pharmacoeconomics, and comparative effectiveness research.

The Research Operations Director, TRAQ, will be the senior scientific lead and collaborate with the research team, including clinicians, epidemiologists, biostatisticians, programmers, and others to conduct and lead research projects sponsored by the Federal Government (e.g., FDA, CDC, AHRQ, PCORI, etc.) or in collaboration with our government and academic partners. Subject areas include pharmacoepidemiology, safety and risk management, surveillance, and comparative effectiveness research, Patient-Powered Research Networks and Clinical Data Research Networks.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides scientific and organizational leadership on research projects, oversees proposal development and federal grants (FDA, NIH, CDC, AHRQ, etc.) related to safety and epidemiology of drug, vaccine, and biologic products as well as projects focused on methods development. Other research projects may include outcomes and comparative effectiveness research. Communicates project status, timelines, end product and analysis results and value messages to internal and external customers or partners.

  • Proactively evaluates project performance against plan and works with Finance in the preparation of project financial analyses that provide insight into successes and shortfalls.

  • Represents HealthCore in client interaction during operational stages of a project as well as in the development of new business opportunities.

  • Executes the vision and contributes to the design of research studies in concert with our clients.

  • Ensures accuracy and timeliness of output and deliverables to clients.

  • Provides leadership in motivating government and academic research team members to accomplish team goals and objectives.

    Qualifications:

  • Requires an MS, MPH, PhD, PharmD or other related advanced degree in business or a life sciences field (MD is a plus); 5 years of experience in health service research, epidemiology, health policy, economics or related field; 3 years of progressively responsible experience in leading project teams in Health Outcomes, including 2 years of experience managing client interactions; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

  • Strong study design and analytical skills are required.

  • Experience using health plan administrative databases (pharmacy and medical claims) is strongly preferred.

  • Experience leading research funded by the federal government (FDA, CDC, NIH, AHRQ, PCORI) strongly preferred.

  • Proficiency with one or more statistical applications (SAS, Stata) or clinical background is a plus.

  • The successful candidate will have excellent oral, written, and presentation skills. Managed care, PBM, pharmaceutical, or related experience is a plus. Ability to thrive in a constantly changing environment is required.
